Me again  :D

I'm looking to replace the stock tyres that came with my Giant XTC (stock tyres are Kenda Blue Groove on the rear and Kenda Nevegal on the front). They are not suited to my riding (far too fat, heavy, too slow and noisy on tarmac, I think they are a DH tyre?) and its like pedling a JCB on the road.

I do lots on road for fitness, but do an 25 mile XC/trail ride every other week. I'm looking for something suited to what I do. I've had a look at www.chainreactioncycles.com but there are far too many choices, and tbh I really don't know whats best.

pls help!

the nevegal/blue groove combo is regarded as one of the best, certainly not a DH tyre, but it sounds like you just need something smaller to make road riding a bit easier.

try some 2.1 or even the 1.8 Panaracer Fire XCs or Continental Vertical Pros

Excuse my ignorance, but is the 2.1/1.8 the width of the tyre?

Panaracer Fire XCs for the trail use and consider getting some slicks for road use. The easiest way is with a spare set of wheels or even a cheap second hand road bike.

I run these on my xtc, theyr not the best gripping tyre but very fast rolling which suits my needs on the xc bike.

Its all down to personal preferance, im sure i had a tyre guide chart for maxxis and michelin though i cant find it.

I would only ever use maxxis and michelin as they are in my opinion, tried, tested and proven to be reliable and fairly puncture resistant.

DMR Moto RTs?
I put them on mine as I do a lot more street/light trail riding and these have made a big difference to how the bike feels.

I have Halo twin rails, amazing in every condition except wet mud.

very fast rolling and loads of rubber on ther ground for jumps and slaloms and a little DH, just not so great when it rains, bit scary.

I would advise for Panaracer trail blaster 1.95s. Fast roling and overall good grip.
oh and their Lite.

How ever i have the 1.80 and their very slim. extremely fast rolling plus you cant bash them cause ive just come back for the Cwmcarn trails today. They were surprisingly good.

marks out of ten. this is based on price vs performance and overall godliness.

1.95 - 9/10
1.80 - 8/10

hope this helps :)

Trailblasters are horrible imo. If your getting Panaracers, get either Trailrakers or Cinders. Tbh the best all round trail tyre, apart from the Cinder, is the IRC Mibro Kevlar.

I am after some new tyres for my XTC, I am doing a 60 miles bike ride next month and I aint doing it on the stock tyres done over 600 miles on the road with them and they are slow going.

Well as I said, the IRC Mibro's are nice too, I haven't used them much, but they seemed good. It kinda depends on the weather conditions as to what tyres you'll want for a ride like that.
