Why is it music always sounds brilliant loud ?

When i was out last night at a pub party i was right next to the speakers all night and just loved the feeling of the bass hitting me !

and while i'm sat here typing this i got music on my headphones as loud as possible cos i love loud music which sounds good ? ( i hate it when you have a really crappy crackling n that)

am i the only one who loves music loud ?

i regularly sleep with my headphones on n my music full blast cos it soothes me ?

am i wierd ? One song that i lsten to full blast is One Sweet Day - Mariah Carey & Boys II Men, in the middle when the whole thing gets going it sends a tingle down me.

Odd I've just come across this thread, I've just listened to Dark Side of the Moon on pretty much full blast through my good headphones. Nothing quite like the feeling at the end of Eclipse when it's on loud, no way near the same effect when it's quiet :)

When it comes to bassy tracks too it's ace to have it loud, I was listening to some Groove Armada the other day on full blast when no one else was in for the first time in a long while, ace :D

as a matter of fact it's all dark.

Music's best at a volume that fills a space. Our rooms are probably around the same size, hence we all like it up at a "loud" volume. Music is generally only properly appreciatable (wow firefox says that's a word :\) when you block out all other noise which can only be done when pretty loud.

Roland klinkenberg - Melting Point vs P. Diddy - Let's Get Ill (Acapella)

try and find that track - just listened to it VERY loud, love it when the beat kicks back in after the build-up

I love my music loud and bassy. To hear music with all the frequencies is great.....was sat in my mates room the other night with notorious b.i.g playing, the bass was great cause hes go ta 12" car sub

Loud "real" music for me would be radiohead - karma police, it was tonight anyway.

Yes, loud music can be awesome. But *grumpy dad mode* seriously think about your ears.

You're quite right. Most people don't realise that it's a progressive thing that just keeps getting worse with near no way to stop it.

Looking at it in a more unuseal way:

Music is a speical way for artists to express themselves to you.
And so if you "connect" with that music on the same or similar level of thought you tend to enjoy it a lot.

So back to the question why is it better louder?

Because the sound waves are more powerful when louder correct?
And so the signal of the message sent to your mind is more powerful correct?
and so the "good" feeling you experience during the song is a lot better and more powerful :).

So in other words...

TURN IT UP! :D

But yeah mate your not alone trust me on that ;)

what song was u listening to mate might give it a listen ?

For Groove Armada I was listening to Raising The Stakes, Edge Hill and Chicago.

The whole DSOTM album is amazing loud, whether its the slide guitar in Breathe, guitar solos in Time/Money, singing in GGITS, or the ending in Eclipse. Excellent stuff :D

Listening to music loud is one thing; with headphones is quite another. Not reccomended at all. Our physics teacher had listened to lots of loud music during his youth, but after a hearing test his ears were deemed very good. However, many of the students who use thier headphones (particularly earbud types) loud already have worse hearing. Worrying isn't it.

Anyhow, I find some music asks to be played "loud" whereas some just doesn't. Not always the obvious ones either with me. I am generally more inclined to play dynamic (ie not highly compressed like pop music) songs louder. Overly limited, bright sounding or recordings with other flaws I prefer to play quieter.

i hate loud music in pubs, clubs etc. i like to talk to my friends, not mime :)

but at home im a sucker for loud music. my hearing is already a tad damaged ( but the hospital says its perfect... i said Pardon ? )

i find the best music to play loud is chill out music, one of muy favs is Smoked glass and chrome, by O.T.T ( its on napster go find )

if not, some nice clean bassy ( is that a word ? ) infected mushroom.

although im a metal head by nature, i find that sometimes it sounds a bit crap too loud.

btw, does anyone get tooth ache from loud music through headphones ? im pretty sure its been the cause of my toothache recently :O
