...don't they ever learn?

I've been following the Glastonbury Music Festival on BBC2 and Sky - All great. Yes, all great for me sitting infront of my television. I can't help but feel sorry for those poor sods drowned in rain, with mud up to their knees.

My question is; After all these Festivals, don't they ever learn? Can't they just put down some astroturf, or some sort of temporary flooring?

Or, is getting covered in mud a large part of the Festival experience?

It's funny, was just having this exact conversation with my mum a minute ago.

Would it not make sense to gravel it, or tarmac it or something

Then again I'm led to believe that it is part of the experience

I dont see the fun though in gettin knee deep in mud and having no real way of washing urself. It would annoy me to no end if i was that muddy at a festival.

Yeah they could astoturf about 4 square mile of fields for a fesival that lasts 5 days, wouldnt be that much trouble im sure

I'm sure at Leeds Festival there was plastic meshing in places on the ground which helped massivly.

Glasto is all about the mud though it's part of the festival now.

The walkways at the Reading and Leeds festivals usually have metal plate type things on them which get muddy, but are nowhere near as bad as if you were just walking on mud/grass.

If people couldnt handle it/didnt like it they wouldnt go, or they'd just go to normal gigs. I love going to festivals, the only thing that puts me off is the inflated prices! Everything else is just part of the experience.

How are you meant to pitch a tent on tarmac?

I seen a clip on BBC2, where they showed the price of different conveniences etc. I was amazed that a tiny paper plate, with like one sausage and scrambled egg was £8.00 ! Madness.

once at download festival we were charged a fiver for a 9" pizza, looked round the back in the bins and they were all tesco value 99p pizzas!

Then again the little stalls pay through the nose to be there

Glasto festival strives to be as green and environmentally aware as possible, im sure it wouldn't go down very well tarmaccing 4 square miles for 5 days of use.

As mentioned reading has walkways which does help. Plus it is part of the fun ;d I think you will be surprised what you will put up with when you are their caught up in the atmosphere, quality music and quality friends.
