Hi all,

I used a website before where you enter a bands name you like and it will let you listen to examples of similar bands, think it began with B but I can't remember it

anyone got any ideas?

It always was.

As said last.fm has a similar function.

A bit long in the tooth, and I don't know if it's still "learning", but might be worth a go. Once it recommends an artist you know/like, click on the "on the map" link for the interesting bit.

I've just tried it, and it's still current and gave good sensible suggestions

Not quite. It was only ever for citizens of the US.

It used to be the case that you could put a US zip code in, but they appear to log your IP now

It was still against copyright to use it from outside the US.

Not true, there was a two or three week window in which they accepted UK (and a few other places) IPs, but due to licensing fees they had to stop it.

Wrong.

IPs weren't blocked, and it was years not weeks, but it was never copyrighted for UK use.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/01/08/pandora_uk_closes/ email stating it's closure to UK residents, it had started to accept people from the UK a few weeks beforehand, I remember getting the email saying they were opening the service up.

Same here, found about 8 new artists yesterday (inc Neutral Milk Hotel, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Velvet Underground and the Apples in Stereo).
