Just managed to bag myself a free ps3 with a phone upgrade. Got Pro Evo and Skate and was wondering if there are any 'killer app' must have titles?

If not, any recommendations for someone who likes sports, fps and racing games?

Thanks!

Oblivion, Warhawk, Unchartered, Resistance

Burnout Paradise, Devil Mary Cry 4 when they come out in the next few weeks.

Inoshishi will have his clip-boarded list to paste here as well

Depends what your into. What do you normally like playing?

For me atm, its Pro Evo 8, CM: Dirt, F1 Champ, Burnout Paradise and COD4.

I'd suggest Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank, neither are absolute classics but both solid enough and show off what the PS3 is capable of and are exclusive titles as is RR7 although I'd probably go for Burnout instead.

If you don't have a 360 as well then oblivion, COD4 and ninja gaiden are all great games and well worth picking up.

I traded in rachet and clank + stealth to get Pro Evo as I despise platformers.

Dirt and Cod4 seem right up my street.

I am into FPS games, sports sims (pro evo, boxing etc), loved gran turismo. Played oblivion on the pc so will probably swerve that one.

Cheers guys

One special cut and paste just for you :D

The Darkness (If you can overlook the serious lack of AA)
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted
Ratchet and Clank
Resistance: Fall of Man
Motorstorm
Call of Duty 4
Unreal Tournament 3
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Warhawk
Super Stardust HD
Tekken 5 Online
Oblivion
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Orange Box (If you don't have a PC)
Assassin's Creed

Can also add to this, Burnout Paradise and Pixeljunk Monsters is well worthy of a mention.

Cheers Inoshishi! Exactly what I was after.

And since Rainbow six vegas is on sale for 17.99 I am going to be snapping that right up!

On a side note, what is the best way of streaming divx/xvid + mp3s etc from my pc to the PS3?

With the PS3 powered up, logged in, and connected to your network

Load up media player 11

select tools

go to options

click the library tab

configure sharing

share my media

Share my media to

there should be an "unknown device"
This is the PS3, so select that

Click on monitor folders and advanced, to tell media player which folders to share.

Now, when it's done its scan, you should see a windows media player icon appear on the XMB on the PS3, above photos, videos and music.
Navigate through that, to see the files on your PC, you can stream them direct, or press triangle and it will copy the video/photo/music to your PS3 HDD.

That's what I do.
Some people prefer to install third party software, but I just use media player as it's already there!

HTH

EDIT: Of the games I have, those that made me go WOW were DiRT, Ratchet and CLank, Uncharted, and I'd have to say Heavenly Sword. Also, a very special mention goes to Super Stardust from the PSN. If you like old school shooters, this one is amazing. Basically built on asteroids, but.. there's a free demo, go try it, it's brilliant, and well worth the £5 or whatever it costs.
Another honourable mention goes to Assassin's Creed. I didn't bother with it until recently after all the negative comments in here. Now I have it, and I can't put it down. Also, of course, Burnout Paradise! Oh, and Sega Rally is cheap, and good looking, fast, arcade fun :)

I dont really want to spend much over 600 squid on the telly if possible..and get 1080p support.

Big ask I know but hey :)

To be fair, unless you're going to be sitting 1 meter or less away from the screen, and you're going to go smaller than, say, 40", 1080p is less essential anyway. With my 40" set, the 1080p does look better than 720p, up to within, say, 3m approx. The further back you go, the less of the extra detail you can see. From further back, 1080p still looks impressive, but it's not until you get closer you can really appreciate the difference.

I'm not sure what you can get at £600. But I would call around 40" the line. Less, 720p should be fine, greater than 40" 1080p would be better.

Just IMO of course.

EDIT: As far as TVs go, do what I did, which was to pay attention to people in here, they've used consoles on TVs of course... there's a good Home Cinema section. I also used google a lot. Plenty of games and hardware sites that review tellies on consoles/bluray. The 40w2000 was basically the most recommended one this time last year, despite its hefty price tag. It's discontinued now I think anyway, but googling for reviews should help you narrow your choices down. I also went to a shop, and got them to hook up four TVs, including the 40w2000, so I could see it against their other top TVs, with various sources, from 1080p stuff and SkyHD, through to SD stuff. Remember, if you go to a shop and ask to test some TVs, there's nothing stopping you afterwards, going home, and ordering the same model off the internet for a few hundred quid less ;)

Hey, Inoshishi, your list is good, and fair, but... a list like that would be more helpful, seeing as there are quite a few titles on there, to have them listed in order of MUST HAVEness ;)

when people want to know what the must have games are, they're generally just asking for one or two, if you know what I mean. Unless they have loads of money, and can buy the whole list in one go.

Was the same for me.
I asked for the most recommended 360 games, to see something good and impressive.

So, great list. Now, go order them in order of desire lol

I couldn't possibly do that, couldn't choose between some of them, but I am going to put [Rent] next to some of the titles that don't quite make the mark.

Cheers for the info. Bit of a telly virgin (as you might be able to tell!) I just want to future proof myself as I don't see myself buying a set for another 5 years if I shell out on a 1080p set now.

Doubt I would want to go bigger that 40" either as I dont want it to be the focal point of our lounge. (Our lounge is quite classical and a huge TV wouldn't look right)
