Hi there

The guy who helped me with my suspension components was back at Road Atlanta this weekend which is a road/track course in America.

His car is a standard Mustang GT, but it does have the following mods:-
Power/BHP Mods
C&L CAI with 93 tune (Predator)
Steeda UDP's
Bassani X-Pipe
Flowmaster Exhaust
Circa 340BHP

Suspension & Brake Upgrades
Steeda Shocks & Struts (Mine are Saleen)
Steeda Ultra Lite Springs (Mine are Saleen)
Steeda Adjustable Panhard Bar & Brace (I have same)
Steeds Rear Swaybar with End Links (I have same)
Steeda Billet Aluminum Lower Control Arms (I have same)
Steeda G-Trac Brace (I have same)
Steeda Adjustable Upper Control Arm (3rd link) (I have same)
Steeda Heavy Duty Upper Strut Mounts (I have same)
Steed Strut Tower Brace (I have same)
Steeda SS Brake Lines (I have same)
Powerslot Rotors (Larger Shelby Rotors on mine)
EBC YellowStuff Brake Pads (Shelby GT500 Ferodo DS pads on mine)

From the sucess Mike has had with his car on both race tracks, road courses and fast normal road use I decided to go with the same setup for my car.

Here are some video's of Mikes 2006 Mustang GT with the above mods at the track this weekend:-
Session 1
Session 2

It looks slow in the video but he is actually running out of gear in 4th and as such is hitting over 130-140mph.

He is looking to improve his power and brakes soon with the likes of a supercharger as the car is now only lacking straight line speed as can be seen when he is up against the 911 Turbo. As on the straights the 911 Turbo is a lot quicker but on the corners Mike's driving skills put the guy in the Porsche to shame. Still goes to prove an American car does not fall off the road at the sign of a corner and can indeed get round them very quickly without fuss. :)
Still when he looked at the lap times he was actually lapping 2s quicker than the 911 Turbo, goes to show power is not everything and that driving skill is, also proves the Mustang has no issues with a corners, especially a sorted one.

Looks very smooth and stable in the corners, the straight line speed isn't overly impressive at this time but that's surely easy to sort by whopping on a supercharger for 400+ :) I imagine it's much harder and costly to sort out the handling.

EDIT: It's not an automatic is it? I don't have sound and know that Americans almost always use automatics and crap their pants at the sign of a "stickshift", would be such a shame on a car like that.

Hi there

His car is a manual, he aint your typical American as he loves corners and the driving experience. :)

See this video of him doing some roads with some pretty mad cambers and sharp turns:-

HI there

I doubt it would to be honest, especially considering the Vectra is driving the wrong wheels for a start. ;)

Fact is Ford with the Mustang built a basic car for the masses but whilst doing so made it very easy to modify. Basically a standard Mustang is an average car but its very easy to make them something very special for little expense. As all those suspension modification Mike and both myself have done cost a total of circa £1000, not really a lot of money really. :)

Blimey is that all, everythings so cheap in America :(

The worrying thing about that video is the fact that he makes the car look really easy to drive and slow, even though you can tell he is actually going it some, especially with the tyre squeal.

HI there

Because $2000 is a lot of money to the general masses in America.

Plus companies like Roush and Saleen are offering more or less such packages. Afterall when a Roush or Saleen sells its still a sale for Ford.

Like everything for 90% of people the cars are fine, but there is that small percentage of us that want even more and are willing to fine tune our vehicles to such an extent. :)

Hi there

Yes the videos do seem to represent speed in such a bad way. Put it this way he hits the limiter a few times in 2nd gear on some of those corners which is like 80mph.
2nd tops around 75-80mph
3rd tops around 105-115mph
4th tops around 130-140mph

So thats an idea of how quickly he is really going yet in the video's it only looks like a 1/3 of that speed but I think the fact he has such a smooth driving style also makes it look slower than it actually is. :)
Put it this way I've had my tyres squealing and to do so took a lot of speed in the corners. :)

That's like me in the Golf, to look at you'd think I was just driving a Family 1.6 hatchback, but actually I'm hooning like a champ ;)

Hi mate,

Mustangs did really well at the weekend at silverstone, only time they looked a little out of shape was on the corner exit, they always seemed to run wider than the other cars, otherwise, it gets the thumbs up from me :)

Mostly because he's a man that can really really drive...unlike me :p

Hi there

Yes I heard there was some Mustangs at Silverstone and that they did indeed do pretty well. Question is has anyone got any videos they can post so we can all watch? :)

HI m8

What horsepower do you hope to get your MX5 upto once all setup and done? Plus what year is yours and what do they weigh roughly? You going to the RR day?
