Ok don't laugh at me please. But is the MX1000 mouse signal between the mouse and base affected if the base until is put right next to a speaker? They aint big speakers - but are pretty powerful.

I went and bought a 15 quid mouse mat, and a brand new MX1000 thinking my current MX1000 was bust, and that the surface on my desk had worn off making it hard for the laser to scan the surface - as it was only doing it in a certain part of my desk (where i use it the most).

After getting my new mouse home today, it was doing exactly the same thing!. Ive had it for 18months and it the base has always been nearish a speaker and ive never had any problems - but it seems to have stopped now ive moved it away from the speaker.

I feel so dumb.

I've got an MX1000 too. I seem to remember the documentation that comes with it saying you should keep the base a certain distance from other electronic equipment (I think the example it gave was the monitor) but if moving the base away from your speakers sorts out your problem, then that really does point towards some kind of interferance I think!
