I passed my full bike test about 4 months ago, I picked up an aprillia tuareg 600 wind for £250 and spent around £200 on it fixing it (most of the cost was the trial tech speedometer)
Nothing is standard on the bike, the forks are from another bike. We bought fork seals for it, to find they where the wrong size. So now we assume the forks are not standard. Wheels are not standard, brakes are not standard. The swinging arm is not standard, its on needle rollers which apparently was a mega big conversion. The exhaust was made by the guy before us from scratch, 100% titanium!!! i bet that is worth more than the bike itself....
When we got the bike, there was no wiring what so ever. So most of the time restoring was wiring. They are no fairings on it, but reading up on them. Most people took them off for off roading?

I bought a trial tech vapour speedometer for it, as I wanted something different from 2 gauges. Its probably the best £100 item I have bought in a long time. Looks amazing at night!

Here are some pics :)

None too shabby mate. The frame would benefit from a respray but other than that it looks awesome!

Bet she's fun to ride, torquetastic.

Nope, i have only posted it here :) I'm not active on any other forum tbh.

I am considering picking up the polisport handgaurds but that means removing the custom metal bars. I kinda like the look off them, and i dont think the hand guards would go over them. I don't think plastic will save my hands as much as the metal bars.

Random pic :)

I dont know whether you know, but I think there are only 5 of these left in the UK - check out 'howmanyleft.com' and see what you make of it....

Your Forks, wheels and brakes are all standard from the factory - 1988. Later '89 models used a twin disc setup at the front. If your ordered fork seals didn't fit, they must have been supplied incorrect.

The forks were a first. It was the first time Upside Down forks were fitted to a road production bike. And weirdly, if you've done the seals you'd have found out - one fork has NO SPRINGs in it, it is damping only - and the other fork has x4 Springs in it (as I recall)...

Your rear wheel and disc are also standard. right down to the chain guides.

Needle roller bearings for the swingarm is also standard I'm afraid.

Exhaust DEFINATLY NOT std...!!!

I love what your's has ended up like - real good you've kept it on the road. In fact, it's a bit of inspiration for one of mine...

I'm mainly getting in touch, as I own x3 of the remaining bikes - I prepped one back in 2003 to take to Saraha - as testiment to how good your bike is - mine went 9000kms, running in 50 degree static heat, at altitudes of 3000 meters, and running on fuel that was the colour of my ****... NEVER missed a beat...

I hope you still have yours - I think it may be a little important for the last few owners in the UK to know each other... you know, for advice, parts etc...

Well that's it for now - thanks for reading.

could just make your own plastic/metal shields and attach them to the existing metal bars?

Hi I also have a tuareg600 in Southern Ireland. It is in original condition
And is in daily use for commuting to work and weekend rides. I'm probably the only owner left still using this bike. I would love to compare notes....tom

Hey Tom,
For sure... just as soon as I figure out how...!!!
There's gotta be a way to PM you - instead of posting on this thread...
Any one point me in the right direction?
