Where do they get all the money from, especially to buy a new car twice a year, and a £5000 table!
as said here already, irish travellers, main work is driveways, patios, etc...
english gypsies main work is tree cutting and scrap.
i have worked with many over the years, and they can make lots of money.
some of them a natural sales men, and they canvass door to door looking for driveways etc..
where a proper builder will charge eg. £5000 for a job, these will charge £4000.
but then they use sub standard materials, foreign labour, and no tax (but they have to pay VAT on materials bought) and the job is nearly always finished to a low standard.
where the proper builder may have roughly £1000 profit from the job.
a traveller after all the shortcuts he has made will have roughly £2000 profit, even though his was the cheaper price,
now i have seen some travellers, doing 2 or 3 of these jobs a week, especially during the summer months.
that is roughly 4-6 grand, for a weeks work (this is an example, not all of them are that sucessfull, but some are)
then there are some, (a very small minority) especially the younger ones, that do distraction burglaries
The most sobering aspect of the recent show was that they said something like half of all gypsies don't make it to 50. In this country in this day and age that's pretty shocking. It goes to show that what all the constant drinking, fighting, living in a poorly insulated environment and not getting proper healthcare does to you.
I'd wager they only see a Doctor when they have to go to hospital.
it is hard to register at a GP surgery, if you have no fixed abode (NFA) most surgeries will turn you away.
also there is major ignorance with them, regarding food etc... they eat a lot of fatty foods, and dont know about chloesterol.
also most have a slight

drink problem.
when they are travelling, there is not much to do at night, so most of them will go to the pub most nights of the week.
