My big fat gypsey Wedding.

i used to go to appleby regular for yrs :) entertaining to say the least :p

same as any people you get good and bad with all . some are fine some arnt just like us.

some of the outfits are a bit out there but some are nice remember its for tv so they have to make a good viewing

this^^^
i know some who are proper gentlemen.
and i try to avoid some who are scum of the earth

They do a lot of construction sort of work plus dont pay any taxes, national insurance etc, they obviously work pretty hard as i know a few near my area that i sometimes see in the pub and they are very wealthy.

I bet they claim all the benefits they can and pensions when they are old enough...

I dont know how the benefits malarky works for them, because of no fixed abode and whatnot however....

They still get full use of hospital services, still use council facilities etc etc and never seem to pay INTO the system or if they do pay into the system i dont know where.

On a side note, the father in law had his new drives done 2 years ago, its one of those pressed concrete jobs....he made sure he used a company with a good reputation.

Little did he know that 2 weeks before the drive was laid the company was bought by a couple of gypseys, now he has a drive that he cant park the cars on as the concrete is sagging, the laquer has peeled and the edges are crumbling.

To say he's not pleased is an understatement, and the best part is that his solicitors cant track the gypseys down as they now have no fixed business address.

Nice.

Everybody in the country is entitled to free hospital treatment. However I don't believe they are claiming much in the way of benefits, at least those living in the caravans. Those in proper houses may be while still doing cash in hand work.

The most sobering aspect of the recent show was that they said something like half of all gypsies don't make it to 50. In this country in this day and age that's pretty shocking. It goes to show that what all the constant drinking, fighting, living in a poorly insulated environment and not getting proper healthcare does to you.

I'd wager they only see a Doctor when they have to go to hospital.

Where do they get all the money from, especially to buy a new car twice a year, and a £5000 table!

as said here already, irish travellers, main work is driveways, patios, etc...
english gypsies main work is tree cutting and scrap.

i have worked with many over the years, and they can make lots of money.
some of them a natural sales men, and they canvass door to door looking for driveways etc..
where a proper builder will charge eg. £5000 for a job, these will charge £4000.
but then they use sub standard materials, foreign labour, and no tax (but they have to pay VAT on materials bought) and the job is nearly always finished to a low standard.
where the proper builder may have roughly £1000 profit from the job.
a traveller after all the shortcuts he has made will have roughly £2000 profit, even though his was the cheaper price,
now i have seen some travellers, doing 2 or 3 of these jobs a week, especially during the summer months.
that is roughly 4-6 grand, for a weeks work (this is an example, not all of them are that sucessfull, but some are)

then there are some, (a very small minority) especially the younger ones, that do distraction burglaries

it is hard to register at a GP surgery, if you have no fixed abode (NFA) most surgeries will turn you away.
also there is major ignorance with them, regarding food etc... they eat a lot of fatty foods, and dont know about chloesterol.
also most have a slight ;) drink problem.
when they are travelling, there is not much to do at night, so most of them will go to the pub most nights of the week.

This has just started on TV in Australia and I thought it was hilarious. They seem to dance like they are having an epileptic fit..... is it considered sexy to them ? Must be......
