My cats are snobs!

i always thought it was more because raw meat is clearly dead for a while and stone cold and so an animal thats a hunter not a scavenger wouldnt touch it due to risk?
Nope - Cats and dogs will scavenge given the chance, as it's less effort to hunt, bring down and possibly even defend your lovely fresh meal... occasionally to the detriment of your white carpet/sheets/laundry when they eat something that has been dead and/or left out just a little too long.

your cat licks its own *******.

I don't have a cat, but I bet your dog likes to wipe his arse by dragging it along the carpet just like every other dog eh?!

Depends how rotten it is. Once a corpse is really decomposed though dogs love to roll in it, sends them into heights of ecstasy for some reason.

Again, cats also do this. It's often just an itchy bum, but too-frequent happenings is a sign that they may have worms... in our case more than once a week and they get their tablets.

I assume for the same reasons as rolling in poo above... that, or they HATE your car's interior design and wish to make their point clearly to the dumb human!

The risk should be very low for a cat. They have a very good sense of smell and a very harsh digestive system, so anything that's gone off enough to be a risk to them will probably smell enough for them to detect it that way. I'm pretty sure they don't scavenge in the wild, though, except by necessity.

Having said that, domesticated cats are, well, domesticated. So they're not the same as wild cats even if they go feral.

Cats are not just hunters. They are opportunists by nature and wild small cats are use to many small meals a day. Mostly rodents, small birds, big bugs they hunt as well as find if not spoilt (which they know from smell rather than temperature). They will even eat the inside of eggs if they figure out they can break them.

One thing they cant eat when non cat owners try to feed stray cats is cows milk. They struggle to break down the lactose in it and it tends to sit in there and give them similar problems as people who cant digest milk.
