Guys,

I’ve had my upgraded computer up and running now for a couple of days and everything is mostly good, but one thing that really stands out is that it likes to switch itself on when if feels like it :(

Since Friday it’s done it three times I think? It had turned itself on for me today when I got home…

Any ideas? I was thinking it might be a motherboard setting, but most of the settings are still default – I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3R and an Enermax Liberty PSU btw.

Cheers,

SW.

Come be some "Wake On" settings in the BIOS I suspect, might be worth looking there and seeing if any of the wake-on stuff is turned on.

Haha I had the same problem with my ip35, well only had it once but still was a totally random boot. Went for a night out and left on utorrent on telling it to standby upon finishing, by the time I was back it was done anyway and switched off. Was then woken up in the morning by the pc booting up randomly. Do you keep yours on standby?

Okay, thanks for the replies ;)

I had a good look in the bios and in my mobo manual and the does have a wake on LAN feature, but it was already disabled?

Under Power Management though there were a couple of possibilities that were enabled, that I’ve now disabled.

PME Event Wake UP and Power on By Ring.

I’m going to give that a go overnight…

could be something connecting the power button pins, long shot by maybe something in around ther is causing it to start up randomly.

other then that all i could suggest is a faulty psu, rather then on purposly starting up by the button press or something connecting the pins, something inside the PSU isnt fuctioning properly and is causing it to surge electricity through the cables starting it up? prob an even longer shot by hey.

hope this helps

Possibly you have had some powercuts :p and you have that option on in the mobo when power comes back on to turn back on.

Thats happened to me a few times.

If it still happens when you plug out the PC then it is obviously haunted. Call up John Cusack and ask him to spend a night in your bedroom and then video tape him going insane, through in Samuel L. Jackson for 5 minutes in order to get his name on the credits and then fob it off as a decent movie.

Saw it last night actually - thought it was great :D

I turn off the things I said I would try and it seems (touch wood) to have worked? It was left off all night and day and when I got home tonight it was still off ;)
