My current thinking with cars. Am I being a moron?

I told the mods to close the thread after I posted the definitive graph resolving the issue, now look at what has happened, lots of comical imitation graphs are going to occur, oh well.

Just lol at the suggestion a mondeo would be deafening on the motorway.

Back in the real world, the ST220 I had was great on the motorway, tyre noise was the loudest thing about it, you could do 20/30k a year in a mondeo no problem.

Wouldn't have a 350Z as a fun weekend car, the one I drove felt a bit heavy/lethargic. More GT than sportscar.

Neil.

without sounding stuck up. how would your customers react to your proposed change of car?

They wouldn't give a stuff.
In fact, some of the salesmen I've worked with won't take their Porsches to customers in case it gets their backs up.

Of the guys doing the same job as me in my company we have:
2 x 730d
1 x 335i
1 x VW Polo BlueMotion (Soon to be replaced with a 535d)

You need an e60 535d.

Its as quick around the Top Gear test track as that 350Z......

Whilst not exactly a serious comment, I admit I was surprised to see that at the end of this clip!

In the real world though it isn't as quick as a 350Z neither is it particularly economical. It's also significantly more expensive than a 530d, his budget would only get him a pre LCI example thats at least 4 probably 5 or 6 years old, and the bills on a 535d are ridiculous enough to make it a fundamentally pointless 5+ year old used buy.

Besides, it fixes none of the issues that are causing him to think about getting rid of the 730d, does it?

What planet do some of you live on? Recently I spend a couple of hours in an Exige S on the motorway to no detriment what so ever, how on earth are you coping with day to day life if a Mondeo "deafens" you.

Hey it's the internet, this is where the art of exaggeration was born! :p

My point is that relative to the 730d, the mondeo will be (IMO) unacceptably loud tiring on the motorway. If the OP had an MX5 or VX220, the Mondeo would be more than acceptable, but to go from a 7 series to a mondeo of whatever flavour for 30k miles per year isn't going to be worth it. I'm not saying that you can't do 30k in a mondeo, just that after owning a 7 series (and being able to afford to continue to do so) why would you want to.

It's not craziness at all - you're just not taking the idea far enough.

Going two cars is the perfect way to avoid compromise and cover as many motoring bases as possible. Get a reasonable Mondy - at least with roasted cow to sit on, or maybe something a bit nicer - oldish 5 or something. That will be absolutely fine for eating business motorway miles. But the fun car needs to be proper all out no-compromise hardcore fun to make the whole idea worthwhile. Not a lardy 350Z, which at the end of the day is just a sporty-ish tintop - get a Caterham/Atom or similar and track the **** off it at every available opportunity. Much cheaper to tyre/insure/service/maintain too than a 350Z.

I know that thanks - just what part of

did you miss there?

The problem with this is that I don't have space in my garage for an open top car. I wouldn't want to leave one on the drive either.
Maybe I need a bigger house.
