because they associate chat room with nerd equivalent of going out which means that its the nerd equivalent of trying to get laid :p
 
Chat rooms do nothing for me, if i want to get talking to girls, i just add my friends, friends of friends of friends on facebook :) so they dont know me but i know them in a creepy, long winded way. Im too busy either working or gaming to bother with chatting to girls if im honest.
 
I used to go on the Robot Wars forum, it was awesome, I got a gf and everything, until I found her in a private room chatting to my arch nemesis. Oh to be 12 again!

I think your calculations are vastly inaccurate... Even if we assume a person of young stature, 20 years of age, has been capable of conversational levels of communication since age 7. Thats 13 years or 4748 days. Now assume that this person has an unfathomably low conversational count of 1 per hour. If we can take this person as requiring 8 hours sleep, so 16 waking hours. Thats 75968 conversations in that time span. Now this scenario is very conservative but still vastly surpasses the majority on this forum.
