There's a hell of a lot of talent on this forum, but here's my humble first post effort shot in the Maldives last week. I hope some of you like it.

maldives1smallzp8.jpg

EOS 5D, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM @ 24mm, F5.7 @ 1/2048 sec, ISO 400.

C & C welcome.

Nice scene and I dont know why but that rope really draws the eye and its super sharp... the weird thing is the vignetting, i dont know what could have been done to avoid it, but it looks a little harsh. Horizon is perfect, im sure more detail can be had out of the boat using PS, but that could simply be my monitor not being calibrated under XP.

Thanks.

The rope makes it and coming from you I'm flattered :)

Yep, vignetting is there. Guess that's full-frame for you.

Pic is totally uncropped and unprocessed btw. Just reduced in size via Fireworks.

That water looks mesmerising. Apart from wanting your camera equipment and your holiday, I really like the picture. The vignetting is a little wierd, but my eyes are drawn to the waters surface, not the corners :)

Excellent shot. As said, a little more detail in the side of the boat would be nice but that's minor.
I'm impressed with the sharpness, it gives the shot a whole lot more impact.

Looking forward to seeing more from you!

I've tried to remove the vignetting here. I think also upping the blue and lowering the green by the tiniest amounts makes a nice change (I havent saved that though, just the corners).

But honestly there is very little needed, if anything, this picture is great as is :)

Could do with some basic editing imo, bring out the colours a bit more, create a tad more contrast between sea and sky.

Not sure the wood at the bottom adds anything, maybe try a crop to remove it.

Also, is that the natural curve of the horizon or lens distortion?

F5.7 @ 1/2048 sec, ISO 400

^^ That's a bit of a random set of parameters too, if you could have the shutter at 1/2048 why not use ISO100 and F8 or something? Or was it taken on Auto mode, EXIF has gone so I can't tell.

Yeah, maybe more sky/sea contrast, but this pic is totally untouched. I kind of like that.

The horizon curve is lens distortion @ 24mm full-frame CCD.

Wood at the bottom is another identical boat btw, which I was on at the time.

I like it without, but not sure whether I like it more.

OT - Spie - Did you catch any Bonefish in the end? :)
No bonefish but caught 2 x Jobfish, 2 x Wahoo, 1 x Red Snapper, 3 x Grouper, 3 x small Tuna. The Wahoo were very strong indeed.

Nice one, all on the fly? or with baits? :)

Yes indeed those Wahoo are very strong, you feel good when you've just landed a 80lb lemon then suddenly you find a Wahoo will catch you out lol :p

Sadly not, nor would a fly rod have had a chance against a 20lb Wahoo.

Trolling for the Wahoo and Snapper using artificial quid. Bottom fishing using fresh Tuna strips for everything else.
