Err, why did you put it in the freezer? Does it make it last longer or something? ;)

Lol... to retrieve my data :( it died on my on the weekend.

Sometimes tiny little mechanical faults can make a disk break and they can sometimes be fixed temporarily by making the parts very cold thus shrinking them ever so slightly. This can in some cases buy you enough time to snatch that data off it.

Make sure you don't get your fingers stuck to it. Like I did. Ouch

wont it be dangerous connecting it back up? especially as its an electrical device?

You did stick it in an air tight bag didn't you? I tried to use the freezer method when my hard drive died, sadly it didn't work though. Some people do say it works long enough for them to get the data off, but it's a last resort thing.

Obviously though, if it's out for any period of time, water will start to gather on the drive, and it did in my case, it never shorted though. But to be honest, I never really had it connected up for too long as I knew it hadn't worked.

i sort of used a air tight bag... but i wasnt certain if its air tight as i had just used a bag that my modem came in and then sealed it off

Well I didn't use an air tight bag, it was a food bag wrapped in several metres of masking tape. :p

What problem are you getting anyway? The dreaded click, click, click when booting?

Before it wasnt detecting the drive but after tapping it with a screwdrive it saw the drive but was giving disk read error..

Unlucky mang... I've been there - never nice whne a HD dies.

I wonder if you had a longer IDE and power cable, you could run the HD while it was still in the freezer? :D

:S I'm betting I could format this drive and it would last a while longer(worked on my Hitachi) but not gonna bother.
