My KFA2 680 OC woes

For now, I underclocked the core clock by 50mhz and at 1080p it still runs everything at max. With a 2 year warrenty, I'll be putting it at stock near the end of that and seeing if I get crashes still. I doubt it will be a drivers issue by then, and would be about time for me to upgrade :p

well if you look at the current version specs

- Core Clock: 1110MHz (GK104)
- Core Boost Clock: 1176MHz
- Memory: 4096MB GDDR5
- Memory Clock: 6008MHz (Effective)
- Memory Interface: 256-Bit
- Processing Cores: 1536
- Shader Clock: 2220MHz

I would say KFA2 released the new version due to bad yields in the OC and yours probably is one. You could return the card but it would only be replaced by the new version and you might as well set the clocks lower to save yourself time.

That's the trouble with factory overclocked cards, I doubt there is even a thorough binning process the vendors just seem to overclock them and push them out of the door hoping not to get too many sent back, whoever advertises the highest clockspeeds is likely to get the most sales so it's worth it.

Cards have to pass whatever tests manufacturers use on them. If they really did just churn them out willy nilly, they would be out of business very quickly. As far as they are concerned, the cards work at those speeds under those conditions.

Where im sure they don't test them is under every single gaming condition, using a variety of different setups, chip batches, resolutions, refresh rates etc.

It seems most of the crashing problems with pre-OC'd cards comes during something like BF3, while they are able to bench all day long at a given speed.

Edit: correct me if i'm wrong but didnt they cost more when they were advertised as 1267mhz than they do now? I seem to remember them just shy of £500. If so id ask for a replacement + refunded difference.

Well I've lowered mine by 50mhz and it ran OK last night (with current betas) no crashes or PC black screen lock up's. Overclockers pushed the highest OC KFA2 V1 cards out at £479.99.
