Don't like each other.

I've followed the guide here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131

But it doesn't work. I can't wake the computer out of sleep with either my mouse of keyboard, it just makes that beep sound everytime you press a key.

How do I - in a nutshell - close my laptop and have my external monitor etc set up?

Your help much appreciated!

Just to say, the Samsung doesn't show the mac screen, it just shows a blue one that is the right hand extension of the desktop. Ie, it is not duplicating it, its extending it - perhaps thats the problem?

You can change the options to duplicate the displays in system preferences under displays or you can drag the apple bar at the top over to the other screen to make it the main window.

When you close the macbook it goes into sleep mode so to use your external screen with the macbook closed you have to power on the macbook with the display connected then close it.

I beleive you need to have it in MIRROR mode not extend desktop mode.

Click on the little screen in the taskbar and select 'turn on mirroring'.

This should work =)

Currently the behaviour is as expected.

What little screen in the task bar?

Its defo mirroring I want, though, thanks guys.

I had to reboot, as you say, so that it starts up with the monitor attached. Then when it sleeps its fine.

However, when I start firefox it starts partly on the macbook screen, so everytime I have to drag it over, so its rather annoying.

I assume this is also because its not yet in mirroring mode??

So can you tell me how to do that?

Cheers guys

Have your macbook open and the external display connected . Go to system preferences > displays > arrangement > mirror displays checkbox.

Hi mate,

There is no arrangement section unfortunately - why not?

Also, robotocia, what do you mean, correct resolution?

Thanks!

My MBP, I put it to sleep, then plug in the VGA into the port with it still closed. Then switch on the main screen and it comes up.
