My manager dropped the L bomb again on me

I would only do it if I wanted to live in London for a while, and I was interested in trying to earn more money.

Commuting from Leicester every day will really take it out of you, I would not do that myself.

Living in hotels is not fun for extended periods of time.

Perhaps a compromise. Find a nice town between Leicester and London were you can find a short term flat or house let, which isn't such a commute. Pleasant surroundings and you can pop back home more easily.

I worked in London and I wish I'd found somewhere a bit further out that was a bit more green and pleasant rather than living so centrally.

ignore this, your entire trip should be expensed, business convention is when travelling you do not have to put your hand in your pocket. if they have a corporate credit card, ask for one, makes expenses a lot easier

Er but didn't he say the same thing, ask them for expenses plus some extra cash as a sweetener??

I said ask for expenses (i.e. all his expenses ) AND a little extra money for the fact that he's doing the job. How is that any different to what you just said?
