Hey guys,

Following from: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17687073

After having no luck whatsoever trying to communicate with the garage RE the problems with my mondeo, I went ahead and had the work done. I've now got to recoup the costs through court.

Here's what needed doing:

1) 3 synchros needing replacing. £350 + £80 to remove and refit gearbox
2) A bolt snapped on the linkage due to the extra force, £60 to fix
3) Finally deduced that it was the clutch: £88.13p for the part from ford, £80 fitting

Total cost: £658.13

I need to try and get that back from the garage now.

Just to give you an idea, the "new" "ford" clutch they put in wasnt either new nor ford...it was made by a company called sachs, and my mechanic and his coworker who have been mechanics for a long time have NEVER seen a clutch this bad, nevermind one that has only <3000 miles apparantly! It wasn't even the right clutch, it was a lowlift one which basically means it doesnt seperate as far as it should, which was causing the clutch to not disengage fully. Pics:

Now for the legal battle....

Sachs is a reputable company but dayuuum, won't stop a failure if it's the wrong part in the wrong place.

What a retarded garage! Hope you get it straightened out :)

Yeah, Sachs parts are generally of decent quality, I work in a motorfactors and believe it or not, we have supplied our local ford dealership with parts on occasions, including clutches and wishbones.

Indeed that clutch is knackered. Filling the 'box up with engine oil, no comment!

Good luck mate, "mechanics" like that deserve to be shot!

wow. that is bad lol

i doubt ford ever make their own clutches, like compaq dont make their own computers, they use other people's components etc

hence your ford has a sachs clutch, so done my vw etc so do a lot of cars.

worst bodge ive ever heard. i HATE taking my car to a 'garage' never left happy once

They are in breach of the Supply of Goods act 1984 as the goods are not fit for their purpose, therefore you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund. If you don't wish to take any of the above, you may get your car fixed elsewhere and claim damages through court to the tune of the cost of repair.

I'm having to do exactly the same thing too at the mo with my gearbox.
