My new lens.... prepare to be jealous

Ok dont laugh i know it's no L glass...

as stated in my 'good bye' thread i just bought this for £8 and i thought it might be worth just having for fun (maybe dissasembling for the hell of it!) but i also want opinions on what it might be good to shoot with it.

ladies and gents i bring you the .......

CANON ZOOM LENS EF 35-80mm F 4-5.6 MKIII

LOL the AF/MF button is history but i can still access the switch so that's all good! well thoughts? what good is the focal length it gives me on a DSLR? and for the love of god it must be old because even though its a MKIII i cannot find a review for it anywhere! so if you can please let me know.

Ok here's some of the sample shots i took - i have played with PS just to make them a little more interesting all have been reduced and cropped etc to get them on uploadit.org..

yea and i only wish id turned the power on now - would be nice to have had the glow of the switch...

yea the ebay auction had it listed as the best lens canon ever made... well lets just hold on there a minute mate haha

but seriously though is a 35-80 meant for any particular kind of photography (seems a strange focal range compared to the newer lens)

tom can you just clarify - am i right saying your using the 35-80mm without the front element to get those photos? or is it something different.

I have the Mk3 version and don't know how to take the front off it yet, might have a play though - see if i can figure it out.

well mines definately a capable test subject due to its low cost (and it has a nasty scratch on the back element - not that i notice it in its result :confused:

) so if you find out how and want me to put mine under the knife first just say so and ill give it a shot!
