My new to me mondeo!

*sigh*

Well, power problem was still there, and have had problems contacting the dealer, so took it to Lindsay ford. Hour and a half later, engine is fine, the problem is a blocked catalytic converter! Guess the first engine took it when it went. A genuine ford one fitted is £500, but a kwik fit one is £270 (3yr unlimited miles), which is bloody tempting! Also, front cv boot is leaking, that's about £70 if I remember. Done the front pads this morning, so hopefully I'll get it sorted within the week!

Diddnt have time before he hung up and refused to take any calls. The diagnostic from ford was to give me grounds to pursue him via courts, but as the engine tested fine, and the cat was not covered explicitly under the warranty (engine and gearbox), I decided it would just too much stress given what I've already dealt with. He will still be getting a carefully worded letter (specifically about his inability to diagnose the problem), but I doubt anything will come of it. Lesson learned: don't trust ballymena dealers, specifically mr. Marvin and David Hagan of doagh auto repairs. Personal opinion only.

So mr. Marvin and David Hagan of doagh auto repairs are give bad service and are not to be trusted ?

Am I the only one thinking that you've been bloody lucky already.

You put a rod through the block, and the private vendor honours his word and rectifies the problem.

Then a ring fails on the "new" engine, and he takes it back and pretty much rebuilds the engine.

I think you got off lightly with a bill for a £270 Cat, to be honest. I also think the vendor has gone above and beyond what most private vendors would. I'd be looking on the bright side that you haven't had to cough up for a new engine, glass half full rather than half empty kind of stuff :)

I'm not defending the vendor, but given his situation, I could easily see why he might feel he's done more than enough already, especially if the original issue isn't something he had prior knowledge of.
