Ever heard the story about the race between the tortoise and the bugatti veyron? No? Well thats because i just made it up but thats the difference between the 9800xt and 8800 ultra lol.

In terms of 3d marks I think a single 8800 ultra gets around 13-15k in 3d mark 06 on an oc'ed dual core intel or quad core.

Well, punctuation aside (I'm assuming there was a question in there, somewhere...), it will be very difficult to effectively quantify the difference as the two cards will be driven by vastly different CPUs/etc.

yeah i thought it would be funny to ask lol ive just been using my comp for the internet really but i thought it was time to upgrade.
do you know if 8800 ultras can have there fans removed so i can fit my new water cooling kit i have seen that bfg are doing water cooled versions but only in america all i can find here is the watercooled gtx's any thought's

Are you upgrading your whole pc? if not then an 8800 series card may be bottlenecked by your cpu.

If you are the 8800 ultra is a complete waste of money, get an 8800gtx and clock it to ultra speeds.

no im upgrading my old pc all im keeping is the case watercooling dvd drive and monitor. i will be getting a quad cpu 4 gig of ram and a new motherboard although i have not decided which make or model as of yet it wont be till early july by which time im sure something faster and better will be out.

quad core cpu's might have dropped in price by then. I have QX6700 which I have clocked @ 3.2 along side a 8800GTX and it run's great, as for the diffrence between a 8800 ultra and a 9800XT it been said already that its a vast diffrence.

I have a 9800pro and although not a direct comparison i was surprised how much better games played on my XBOX 360.

well that was one of the main reasons i stopped playing pc games. my last game was black and white 2 and the slowdown was rubbish and i got fed up with some games slowing down or jerking around i thought i just want to play my game without it crashing or jerking around so just after that i bought a xbox 360 and didnt look back. but now there is a few games that have come out and ive been wondering what they would be like on a pc. i will be connecting my new pc to my samsung 40" hd lcd so the my new pc has to be the dogs nuts ive got about £1500+ to get the cpu/motherboard/ram and graphics cards. ive just bought fear for the pc for £6.99 on play.com ive got it running on medium settings so far but cant wait to max them out.
