1. Will upgrading my motherboard seriously screw Win7 up if I don't do a clean install?
2. What can I do about my game saves and DLC with Dragon Age if i do reinstall Win7?

Thanks, can't wait to get building again!

Woo. I remember being told in the old days that there'd be a raft of issues, since windows picks the drivers it needs when it installs...Maybe this isn't the case anymore.

I'll keep my boot drive pretty clean of stuff just in case something does go awry.

Although you don't have to reinstall, it's highly recommended. Removing chipset drivers can leave debris behind which can cause conflicts. By all means try it but be prepared.

Savegames.. If you launch the games explorer, left click on rhe game icon to bring up options. One of those will be "SavedGames" and will navigate to the savegame location. From there, backup to another drive. When you re-install the game, start a new game ( so it creates all the necessary files), and reverse the process replacing the savegame folder with the older one. Make sure that the new installation of the game is on the same patch as that of the old.

Cheers. I'm going to try it and I'll reinstall if I need to. I've only been running this win7 installation for about a month, so there isn't much junk on it.

Update: Upgraded the computer. Switched on. Everything seemed fine. Suddenly, though, almost all programs began to close with a C0000005 error. Just going to reinstall and see what happens. Annoying because I already had to reactivate windows over the phone.

Anyone heard of that error before by the way?

Bugger. Errors are still there. Prime95 didn't even start. The Windows Memory Diagnostic reported no problems. No idea what this could be...

Running memtest now.

Oh yeah, and I can't install the drivers on the CD because they don't support Win7 + I can't download them from the Asus site because the captcha thing doesn't even show up!

Edit: In case anyone is searching for this problem. I managed to get the system much more stable after updating my BIOS and turning up the speed of my RAM (no idea why this worked). Dragon Age doesn't crash and I've only bluescreened once since saturday. Not ideal, but at least I can still use my PC.
