My PS3 and HDMI don't go well together

I'm getting so ****** off with my PS3 now. It never works when I first turn it on ... the console loads but I get "No Signal" on my TV and the controller doesn't pair with the console - all 4 lights keep flashing and eventually go off.

I then have to turn it off and back on again by keeping my finger on the power button (which seems to take ages, why couldn't they make it two seconds or something?!) and then turn it on again in hope that it works this time. Most the time it doesn't so have to turn it off and on again etc etc.

Lately I've had to turn it off and back on between 7-10 times to finally start playing. Somewhere in between the off/on procedure it will normally beep 3 times and turn itself off too, turning it on too quickly results in another 3 beeps etc. It's really frustrating :(

I phoned PS3 support and they said reset the display settings which I've done ... worked the first time after that but now it's back to being messed up.

Anyone else experiencing this or any ideas what I should do?

i assume you have set up the controller again when connected with the USB cable?

Have you possibly got the PS3 set to a higher res than your screen can take??

Hold the power button down for 5 seconds, it should double beep, that is a soft reset, see if that does anything.

The res is either 720p or 1080i and my TV can take both.

I've done the reset thing, it will work for when I next turn it on (well, it did last time, could have been coincidence) and then it goes back to the no signal problem.

What tv are you using?

Samsung LE32R74 ... maybe a BX on the end of that too.

1) Um, I not sure about this but if you run the PS3 blindly (unplugged HDMI) does that pair the controller with the console normally?

If it does normally pair - it's your PS3

If it doesn't normally - might be the TV

2) It might have something to do with the HDCP handshake

3) tried it over composite or component - works fine?

1) Haven't tried that, maybe I'll give it a go.

3) Don't have a composite but I'll give component ago.

Just realised you said HDCP ... if my TV has a HDMI input does it automatically do HDCP too? (that's images and sound through HDMI right?).

Just plugged in the cables that came in the box and unplugged the HDMI cable. Held down the power button for the second beep to reset it and I'm still getting no signal (and I've got the correct source on my TV).

It keeps beeping and flashing when I turn it on now too

I think the support line is open till 10pm, think I'll give them a ring.

Well it started after a few days but at first I only had to turn if off/on once or twice and now it's ridicuolous.

Just tried it on a SD TV with the cables that came out the box and no signal on there too.

If you really want to play it safe I guess you could remove the drive, connect it to a PC and copy all the data but this is time consuming.

I decided to try this. Took the hard drive out and connected it to my motherboard. Booted from the usual hard disk but I see no way of getting the data off the PS3 one? I was expecting it to be under my computer but it's not.

It's working now

I decided to plug the cable that came with it straight into the TV instead of with the scart connector which I use before (and on the other TV).

Said I had to format my disk though so I must have messed it up somehow with windows earlier :/

Yeah it was bad but I changed it back to HDMI and it worked first time. Could have been coincidence so I'll keep testing it tomorrow and if it starts doing it again I'll send it out on Monday (which is when I was going to send it anyway).
