My PS3 and HDMI don't go well together

If the hard disk is internal you can't do much I don't think (I'll let someone else take this since I don't have a PS3)

If it's external like in the 360 one you might be able to keep it.

Ive had this happen once with mine to :(

its only happend once so far but it was just as you discribed in your first post

no signal and control pad would not connect

i also had to turn off the machine at the back and turn it back on. its been fine since tho.

If the PS3 is faulty but the harddrive is working Sony will give you the old harddisk in a new PS3 or copy the contents.

You have to RMA the complete machine, you cannot keep the harddisk and RMA the unit.

I have a USB key and memory stick duo but I'm guessing I need to get the PS3 to load up before I can copy the game saves?

Oh obviously, sorry, I was being an idiot :)

I guess there's not a lot you can do unless you know anyone else with a PS3 - then you can put your hard drive in there and copy the saves off. Otherwise, hope that Sony will do what Dutch Guy said.

I was at a retail event from Sony a month ago for retailers and they stated that they would try to save the data on the harddrives if possible and I think that is true.

If you really want to play it safe I guess you could remove the drive, connect it to a PC and copy all the data but this is time consuming.

I decided to try this. Took the hard drive out and connected it to my motherboard. Booted from the usual hard disk but I see no way of getting the data off the PS3 one? I was expecting it to be under my computer but it's not.

Yeah I've tried it too. It seems the PS3 hard drive is formatted with a filesystem that Windows can't recognise.

It's working now

I decided to plug the cable that came with it straight into the TV instead of with the scart connector which I use before (and on the other TV).

Said I had to format my disk though so I must have messed it up somehow with windows earlier :/

Can't believe no one's mantioned the sweary in the opening post :p

Glad to hear it's all good now.

I'd still worry about HDMI, since composite you have now is an aweful connection.

Yeah it was bad but I changed it back to HDMI and it worked first time. Could have been coincidence so I'll keep testing it tomorrow and if it starts doing it again I'll send it out on Monday (which is when I was going to send it anyway).
