My PS3 is quiet again - woooooh!

Completely stripped apart my PS3 today and then cleaned, re-applied thermal paste and rebuilt - now runs as quiet as when it was new

It's been getting very noisey lately with the fan kicking it up a gear when just watching play TV etc... not suprised when considering how much dust was inside the bloody thing - Urgh, it was filthy! PS3's are a complete dust magnet!!!

My mates 40 gig unit was CRAZY loud (and they didn't realise that wasn't the norm) - got them to phone up sony and report it - 2 days later replacement unit arrived and old one taken away. No fuss. Very impressed.

Not as hard as you'd think apparently, as long as you've got basic PC building skills it should be enough. There's an absolute heap of tutorial videos on youtube showing you how to dismantle them.

Not too difficult - you need to carefully make a note of where you take screws from though as there are a lot and many different sizes etc.

Took me a couple of hours but that was because I was trying to do other stuff at the same time - probably would have took just over an hour if I was working just on PS3.
