Evening all,

Some of you might remember a thread a while ago where i was talking about trying to return a laptop to the evil purple shirt place.

Well it's still going on and we've only got 1 more week on its warranty.

We've sent the laptop back 3 times to get it repaired and we've been told that the only thing that they've done is turn the laptop on and connect it to their wireless network and left it on for a couple of hours.

Each time they send it back, we test it and it doesn't work - and it didn't work in the purple shop either.

We're now trying to get a refund but the shop said that they can't give us a refund unless they see the fault themselves (one TechGuy has but he is off ill ).

We got it back today and it didn't work, so i've taken 4 screenshots of it not working and i'm hoping that this will be enough to persuade them!

Do any of you know what my rights are in regards to Trading Standards etc..?

Would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Surely if Tech Guy saw the fault, there would be a log of it in their records (am assuming they keep tech records when they test kit, would make sense). Doesn't matter if he is off ill, it has been seen by one of thweir employees, so should stand.

Even if it's out of warranty you've still got your SGA rights. You may have to pay a contribution towards the replacement or loose a percentage if they do give you a refund.

After a while they will tell you to go away. They will say they have check it 'however many' times and tell you they cant do anything else. You will then have to go through a long and frustrating route of writing letters to the complaints dept, and then getting advice from CAB.

Good luck and remember only old people buy things from that place and even then they only buy ink cartridges

Depending on the number of times it has gone back to the store for repair and length of time fault has been unresolved means there is an argument that the have not had fair use, assuming its within the 1st year of purchase.

I work in said place (not OP's local store) and if we see the issue, we fix it. simple as that. Fault was logged before warranty runs out so you don't need to worry about that.

What exactly is the problem and how have you taken screen shots? Ie, of what?

The fault is that the WiFi card is broken inside the laptop which means it doesn't connect to any wireless routers. All my other devices (iPhone, PC, other laptop, PS3, Wii) connect to the router fine here but the laptop doesn't.

We've sent it back 3 times to get it replaced but all they do is turn it on.

The screenshots show the process of it not working - i would post them but they are on the laptop and it doesn't connect to the Wifi so can't upload them

The 1st one shows that the signal that i get is 1 bar - and that's when i'm standing right next to it.

The 2nd one shows me trying to connect to it and the laptop telling me that it is unable to connect.

The 3rd one is where the laptop finally connected but halfway doing a google search it dropped out and displayed 'Limited Connectivity".

And the last one shows that the Wifi card cannot pick up any wireless networks after disconnecting from the router.

Are you getting unidentified network on the wireless conenction?
By saying it wont connect to "any wireless routers" how many have you tried?
They just turn it on and it works there? If that's the case sounds like the settings tbh

So when you took it into store, showed them that it wouldn't connect even to their wireless router, they still refused to do anything about it?

Try phoning tech guys directly, they will go through the usual have you tried this etc etc. Then they will book it for repair if it still doesn't work. You can either have it collected from home or from the store.

0844 800 6020. As I say they may get you to try a few things first, but if you keep saying to them that it isn't connecting (say you have 3 different routers within range of where you are so they can't say something like 'try it on another one and call us back').

If all else fails drive to our branch, show us it won't connect and I'll book it for repair lol.

Sure the encryption settings are set correct on the network? and that you don't have a weird IP address in the settings.

Probably best testing on a completely different network.

All setting were correct and i tried multiple routers which the laptop couldn't connect too.

Manage to get a refund but it was on too a gift card so have to get something in store.
