Im 20y/o earning 19k a year.. should i buy a bmw z4 with a insurance quote of £4540. I've managed to convince myself that i can but i really do need someone to tell me the honest truth. Did you own a high powered sports car when you were 20. I current have a 1.4 focus and the differance would be massive.

If I could get the quote down to around half that I'd consider it. You're looking at around 4 months net pay purely on insurance with that quote.

Nothing to do with being 20, but that price is ridiculous. Wait a couple of years, then you can enjoy it without the silly insurance price.

I wouldn't consider it. I couldn't bring myself to pay that much on insurance. I had a 306 GTI6 when I was 20 which was bad enough at just over a grand if my memory serves me correctly!

:( Im going to have to wait until my insurance drops dramatically i admit that arnt there insurance companys that specialise in covering younger drivers?

You are completely barking mad to even consider paying that much for insurance. Just think about the other running costs, fuel, servicing, tax etc.

I can totaly understand you wanting something quicker than a 1.4 Focus, but perhaps think about something a little more affordable than a Z4 for a couple of years.

This is exactly what i needed. I can get off cloud 9 for another night and ride to work in my boring 1.4 focus tommorow morning. :(

£4500+ ??

Im 18 and was quoted £3600 on a Focus RS, dunno the insurance group ect

Have you had a good ring round see who can do what? I really want a fast car when im 20-21 too but I wont pay over £2500 on anything

There's nothing wrong with wanting something better than you're 1.4 Focus, but there are other cars in between that and a Z4 which will make a decent in-between car that would still be quicker and more fun to drive. Go out and test a few.

Find something else thats quick and cheap to insure if you want a bit more performance. That's just a ridiculous price.

In all honesty i have only checked your bog standard comparison sites. I've wanted the z4 since seeing it when it was first released at a Grand Prix which i atteneded. Im going to have to wait, theres obviously nothing i can do to help ease the financial blow it would almost certainly cause.

Have you tried a quote on the Z4 2.2? Insurance will be cheapest on that. Reasonable price to buy too.

There is an 18yr old driving a 530i, and a 19yr who bought a 330i on these boards, Z4 2.2 shouldn't hurt too much. Use Elephant or Bell.

I'd wait, I was earning a similar amount when I was 19 and my car and insurance was considerably less, yet still seemed to wipe me out, after paying for the car and insurance you'll have no money to put petrol in the damn thing!

There are plenty of cars like the Z4 which you could get which will cost considerably less such as a MX5 and will still give you some money to play around with!

Like everyone has said, you'd be mad to pay that much. £4.5k and (touch wood) you'll get nothing for it after the years up, its just gone.

No need to keep your focus though, could always find something in between.

If you're serious about something more sporting - well, you could always try something else - i.e. I drive a C4 Corvette and at 21, it's under 600 quid to insure. Makes a bit more of a scene than a Z4 as well :p

Maintainence, fuel & whatever else can add to those costs considerably though.....
