my spec, think this is it fellas!

tbh I always thought it's the otherway around - extreme boards like the rampage 3 is aimed at enthusiasts and thus will have tons more options in BIOS making it more confusing for a oc novice.

One thing though the rampage will give you sli/crossfire bridge but I'm not sure if cheaper boards will give you one, still they should be easy enough to buy anyway.

The PCI-E lane spacing shouldn't be a problem unless you're planning to sli more than 2 cards? What case are you using? Like others here I would just get a cheaper board with a 5970 and maybe a 64gb C300, then get another 5870 later for tri-fire but you seem pretty determined to go down the rampage 3 route.

nah the programs u can use with the board lets u overcock in real-time
with windows running. seems far easier to me instead restarting and tweaking in bios a load of times.

dunno about case yet 600T or fractal design XL tower they arnt in stock yet thats why i have to wait a bit longer to order

LOLOL NERD RAGE!!!!

Learn to type and stop trolling, pleeease.

This thread has so many opinions in it and all you've done is ignore pretty much everyone advise.

God save the people of Tenerife ..

Also I agree that board will probably be too complex for him, nice simple board with enough settings but nothing ridiculous, max you really need to get a decent overclock is 10 settings.

Still if it crashes it crashes, not really that much help ..

//see what I did there, edited a thread not to double post, learn it..

I don't rate the Rampage 3, but if bling over substance is your thing im sure you will like it.

Lets face it on Air cooling you will will hopefully be able to get to 4Ghz, you can do that on any x58 board (that ive tried so far anyway).

The 460s will be an interesting choice let us know how you get on.

Have fun.

This thread seems to have lost its way, I went all out and got the rampage 3. think i got a crappy 930 though as its not liking going over 3.6 so just because your getting this board doesnt guarentee you 4ghz+. that aside its got stacks of features and i had the spare cash so thought why not. if you have the spare cash then you really wont regret it but otherwise get a cheaper one, like you said its only a good weekend more expensive!

them graphics cards with that board is silly as you cant 4way sli them anyway

get a single 480 for the same money it will make a better long term investment

Hi jakesnake - your spec doesn't surprise me at all :)

Guys if you've read any of jakesnake's previous posting you'll know he isn't interested in bang for buck and will not listen to reason - so forget it. He wants e-peen and that's what he'll get. Unless you post 'I 100% agree with your spec' you'll be ignored or rebutted. All he wants is for people to be really impressed/jealous at how much he's spending on expensive components.

Jakesnake you know my opinions on i5 vs i7 for gaming ;) and you know you could spend the same amount and get a much better system with an SSD included and two 470s or even 480s. But you dont care - it's not your style. I could post you a spec that destroys yours in gaming for the same money but you'd just ignore it so i wont bother :).

Everyone else you're just wasting your time too.

Good luck with your build - at the end of the day we just have to respect your right to ignore good advice and do it the way you want. Peace :)

my thoughts to the T, thanks! i might get lucky and get a good 950 so fingers crossed.

ok lets just leave this thread now because some of your
faces i think went BEETROOT at some stage in this, you
would actually think the money was coming out of your pocket.

im not interested in hanging around here with my sig in bright colors
i just came on here to read up on hardware and get a spec sorted.
ill probably put up a couple of pictures and show the ppl who r
interested in the build how my 2nd build is going.
but after that it will be goodbye for another 6years atleast :)

Thread closed!

meh jake its as if your trying to avoid/deny the opinions/advices the pros are giving you.
yup kind of agree to liampose. id like to see that build that can destroy it with the same amount o money
i think your here to impress how much you can spend.
people here with more experience are giving you advices but you just ignore it, what would be the point of posting a thread asking for peoples opinions and advices if your just going to ignore it?

LOL why the **** would i want to "impress" a bunch of e-fellas,, wiseup would ye!

im taking advice, im gonna cut down the psu a bit and just gonna get a single 480 instead of x2 460s, these wer suggested and im doing it.

Laimpope is just talkin **** again, why would you want to spend the same
amount of money but end up with an i5. its DAFT!

Add: just forget about the board im getting it,,, pi55 on the rest of the spec then so i can tweak that

well since you wanna spend as much as possible when dont you get yourself 2 5970's :D, i know somebody that spent £4000 on their rig and doesnt run games any better really than mine mainly due to the fact its all xbox and ps3 ports so a gaming rig with an i5 quad core probably would be just as efficient for gaming.

Oh go on then - I said I wouldn't bother, but just for you jakesnake. I even resisted my deep i5 fanboyism and kept your i7 :). How's about 2 470s, a C300 SSD, a Bluray writer, and a soundcard for the same price?...

No? You'd still prefer to stare lovingly at your 'bling'?

:)

sound card isnt really needed to be honest, jeez nice basket!

Not really - it's a nice-to-have though imho. I can vouch for the quality of a dedicated soundcard compared to onboard if your connecting to a hi-fi for example. I was well upset at the thought of losing my trusty Audigy 2 when I put my current rig together as I heard there were no win7 drivers, but Creative released some literally that week :) Get in! Jake mentioned having expensive decks (he thought expensive decks would make him a better DJ) in another thread, so I figured he might have a hi-fi to output to and appreciate the soundcard. Not that he'll consider this or any other spec at all though. Ah well.
