Hi,

Looking to upgrade my existing pc. Upgrades I have chosen are :

i7 9700k, Gigabyte Aorus Pro wifi, 2x8gb DDR4 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance rgb, H80i v2 cooler. and 4K monitor.

My current specs are : i7 4820k, 2x4gb Hyper X beast ddr3, Asus p9 x79pro m/b, 1080 gtx gfx, H80i cooler. 1920x1080 monitor.

Any advise would be appreciated before I jump. Also cant decide whether new Ryzen or intel.

Ta!!

Hi and welcome

Do you really want 4k? Your 1080 will really struggle with games at that resolution. Have you considered a good 1440p monitor with high refresh rate? A high refresh rate is more important than 4k in my opinion and makes a bigger difference than 1440p to 4k

The rest looks ok but it depends on what you want to do with your pc I suppose? If you do anything other than gaming then consider a Ryzen 2 build as for a lot of productivity where core count matters they're better than Intel.

Selection looks good, 9700k /3800x would be wasted on 4k .

1440p 144hz gaming !!!!! Fast and pretty ! Then 1080p for ray tracing single player in the near future .

Drop to 3000hz ram if it's cheaper ! Intel isn't effected as much with speed

Since no one has asked, which games are you going to be playing?

And you should ignore those who pooh-pooh 4K gaming. I've been gaming at 4K for 5 years - since I had a 780 Ti. A GTX 1080 is fine for 4K gaming if you don't use ultra quality and turn off some of the bells like Hairworks. If you do go 4K the monitor you want is the Acer Nitro 4K.
