hello :)

has been a while since i've had a post, but i just HAD to share this with you all ;)

above is a picture of my very first crash.
i was driving with my sister this morning, going along what is a an almost dead straight length of road, but has a fair few ups and downs to it.

one in particular is a hidden dip, no sign but ive driven it a million times. just half way down this dip, a tree had fallen. 2 guys had crashed into the tree, shattered there windscreen, damaged the lights and bumper, but it was still pretty much a write-off, from what i can remember it was a small 106 or something.

then someone had come along to help them. as they hadnt been able to get out the car as yet, the new 'helper' had a fair sense of urgency about it all, and rather than park his car at the top of the hill where it could be seen a quarter of a mile or so away, he parked it just the other side of the dip, a way up from the tree.

so, bearing in mind this is a national speed limit road, i was taking it steady at 50 as it was peeing down with rain on a road that was only dry a day or so ago, rather than doing my [naughty] but usual 70 or so.

came to the top of the dip, and as we came down the other side, the first thing i saw was the tree. then as my lights dipped lower, i spotted the helpers car, about 25 yards or so away. i hit the brakes, but before i had time to do my 'pumping of the brakes' sort of thing, which tbh, i probably wouldn't have remembered anyway, ide gone straight up the back of the parked car. of course, hitting the brakes did sweet FA.

so my engine was all over the road, my dashboard had a ...revamp. and its now at the scrappers i'd imagine. had to spend WAY too long in hospital just to be told what i already knew- i had muscle strain in my lower back, and a jarred left ankle. thats about it really.

deeply embarrased at going into hospital on a bed, when i could walk just [about] fine. ah well.

this was exciting!!

CAR SHOPPING NOW :D (i thought this about 15 minutes after the crash, whilst still walking around in a daze :p )

Difficult to work anything out from the pic. What car was it? What're you going for next?

What did your insurance company say?

Hope there's no lasting damage to you. Cars can be replaced :)

It was an R plate Fiesta - 1.25 16v LX :)

Just found out that my insurance wasn't Fully Comp, as my dad sorted it out for me.

Hopefully going for a higher spec Fiesta or maybe a Focus next!

Bloody hell, looks like you got off lightly with that one! Glad you're OK.

What road is that?

Its the old A3 just outside Liphook, heading to Rake.

Jesus christ Gem, so sorry to see this :(

Glad you're ok though. Looked like it could have been very nasty.

What speed did you hit the other car?

Jees that looks bad, you out of hospital now and all ok?

Yep, all fine, my sister was in the car with me and we're both complaining of bad backs, as we both tensed up when we hit, and i've managed to jarr my ankle, which is probably the worst part- can't stand being immobile, frustrates me like you wouldnt believe :/

Thats quite bad, how will this pan out through insurance as it was unavoidable

Well my car was only covered Third Party Fire and Theft, so i'll get no money back from it, the other person is going to claim off me most probably. his car was only a Rover anyway :p ;)

well. as i came over the brow of the hill, i was doing 50. so the maths would be=

50 mph, very wet road, downhill, brakes locked... certainly felt like 50 when i hit it, but i'l guess about 45mph.

sister is fine, we both are :) were just shakin up. a bit angry that there was no warning on the top of the hilol until AFTER we crashed, but you cant always help it i suppose...

You seem remarkably perky and cheerful for someone who's just written their car off and isn't going to get a penny back - not to mention higher insurance costs. When I had my first crash I was gutted :)

I was thinking the same thing, but then again I was like that after my crashes, (my 3rd was I was rather annoyed actually..).

Surely it's the other persons fault for abandoning his/her vehicle in a blind spot. Surely 50/50 at least??

I would have thought so and tbh if someone had parked their car in such a place I'd be very annoyed  Because an accident would seem almost inevitable, and so it proved.
