Hey guys, running a small wireless network at home consisting of..

PC - Bedroom
Laptop - Living room
PS3 - Bedroom

currently with sky on 10mbs with their std netgear router....

noticed my wireless streaming on my ps3 is very slow, anyone suggest best way forward? dont wanna hard wire it as such i was thinking upgrade the router? anyone suggest one? budget around £50 - £100.

Thanks

First of, all welcome to the forums :)

Secondly is it just the PS3 thats running slow? Is you're wireless laptop streaming okay?

Reason I'm asking is if you're Sky broadband isn't unbundled then it could be down to traffic shaping (blame BT) at peak times. I'm also with Sky broadband and downloading / streaming between 1600 - 0000 is nigh on impossible even though I got a solid 8128 kbps downstream connection speed.

Also, are you aware that you're Sky broadband service wont work unless you use the routers they provide? That is unless you flash the firmware on it ;)

I didnt know that no, thanks for the welcome.

Its not the ps3 as such its my laptop that runs slow.

I have a wire from my router in my room which i pick and choose which i rather be quicker at the time say for example if im downloadin on my pc ill plug it in that, if im playing online with ps3 ill plug it in that.. just wanna see if there is anything i can do to make things run quicker?

Does you laptop have draft 'N' wireless? If so a 'N' router would speed up file transfers on your home network etc. But your internet speed including downloading will be no better. I see you have 10mbs that equates to a download speed of approx 1.25MB/sec that is easy wireless 'G' speeds.

Where is your router in relation to your laptop?
