Not such a bad day afterall as I had some success!
Headed over to a local tyre place at lunchtime and had an interesting chat with a fitter. He took one look and said no, it's on the shoulder so not repairable. Ok fair enough, just one of those things I guess. After a bit more discussion he tells me he wants to pull the nail out. I thought hang on, if you take it out and it is punctured then I'll be forced to buy some tyres off of you there and then. So he gets back to me and says he would buy me a new tyre himself if he couldn't get the tyre back to how it was when I first brought it to him. So I'm thinking, can't really lose could I? Go on then, do it I said to him. He took a pair of pliers and took it out and it was much smaller than we both anticipated and not long enough to penetrate. He wiped over some water over where the nail was and there didn't seemed to be any air bubbles. Result!
I'll need to check the pressure over the next few days, but it looks like I got a lucky escape.
