It was Eureka, i played it on the Spectrum, although i understand it was multiplatform.
There was a £25,000 reward for anyone who completed it, it was split into (i think) 5 parts spread across the ages. A friend and i got to around 75% completion on the last part, then i got a job and we stopped playing, i noticed that the prize wasn't claimed until about 4 months later !!

£25,000 was a lot of money back in 1984/5 !!
