NAS - "sleep" mode?

hi guys

not sure to post it here or Hard Drive forum

am looking for a NAS for my network. i really like the Thecus YES N2100 box but wondered if they do "sleep" mode when i dont use it for a while, maybe after 30 mins. and "wake" it up whenever i access it.

"sleep" and "wake" what i mean is turn the hard drives off/on to save power and last longer

know any other NAS devices do this?

It may save power, but it certainly won't make the drives last longer.

do u have to install driver/software on any PC in LAN to access this NAS?

I installed the software to set the NAS up on one PC but I can access it from any PC in my LAN. I just had to map the drive. I have 3 PC's and use the NAS for automated back ups using the supplied software and for storing files that are accessable on all 3 machines. I also use it as an FTP server.
