National Identity Priority

Earthling

This to be frank. I have no loyalty or patriotism to any country. I'll live here until it's no longer one of the best countries in the world. If it gets too nanny-state, tax heavy etc I'll up sticks and move somewhere better. I've always classed myself as a world citizen first then english second

I knew there was something odd about you. :p

One of the many things :P

This. I've really never seen anything more stupid than national pride. OK, I've seen a lot of things more stupid than national pride, but it's a still very silly. I understand the idea of having pride in things you've done, but having pride in where you were born just because you were born there? Really? Why? If you were born in a Sudanese hovel, you'd be just as proud of that. That's bad enough, but to them leverage it, as some do, to imply or state that their bit of the world is de facto better than other parts of the world - just because they were born or live there. I've seen many reasons why one person might be better than another, but none of them involve where they were born (or their religion, or the colour of their skin for that matter).

M

Like I said, it's not about where you were born. I was born in the UK, but I'm not British.

Anyway, nationality is not just about birthplace, it's about pride in community and common values. There are divisive factors of nationality, but there are also good things too.
