just want some opinions as it looks on the surface to be a great spec at a silly cheap price but I'm not going to click buy until I'm sure it is, especially if there is something better at a similar or slightly higher price

mains spec is listed as

CPU : Rockchip 1.4GHz X 2
Graphics Processor : Mali 400 MHz x 4
Touchscreen : 5 point multi touch capacitive resolution 1024 x 600
Operating System : Android 4.1 JELLY BEAN
Memory : 1GB DDR III / 16GB NAND Flash - upgradeable by Micro SD memory card (max 32GB)
WiFi : 802.11 b/g/n
Connectivity : 1 x Micro SD slot, 1 x AC Jack, 1 x 3.5mm Earphone Jack, 1 x Mini USB, 1 x mini HDMI out
Battery : 4000mAh

so is that as good a deal as it appears or am I missing something?

Often the issue with these 'cheaper' tablets is support, both official and community based, meaning glitches/bugs may not be dealt with. Have you looked at Ainol tablets - these are similarly well priced, but have an excellent support/dev community at places like Slatedroid.....for example, the Aurora II is £90 and offers very similar specs, along with an IPS screen - can be found in the rainforest....

but the nexus is £100ish more which is rather a large jump in price

While it is a large jump in price, you are rewarded for it big time.

A tab that looks and feels classy, very smooth and fast performance, great and responsive screen and of course, the latest updates from Google.
