Hi guys,

been a while since i've been on here, so long that i ahve had to sort out a new account.

i dunno if any of you have had this happen to you but i've bouhgt about £400 worth of stuff through OCUK and as a result had all my natwest cards blocked temperaly by the bank, didn't realise untill i tried to pay for a take away with my card, rang up natwest and they told they have a team monitoring this site due to recent fraudulent transactions. i've used OCUK for years and this surprised me. they suggested that i shouldn't use the site untill further notice!! turns out i had a letter sent home (not uni address) the day after my transaction (i hadn't used my card since paying for stuff on ocuk) with urgent attention detailing the problem.

anyway all sorted now but it did make me wonder how much trust i should have with sites that i put a lot of trust in (if that makes sense)!

First natwest suck, i cant stress this enough!

Yes It happened to me today, went to tescos paid by my card all fine and dandy. 2 hours later had to pop into asda, oh wait card rejected! FFS I have money in that account. Luckly the woman came to the resuce with her card, its a pity the flowers she ended up paying for were for her:/

i've never had a problem with natwest in the past, when i went abroad they even phoned me to check i was a abroad to ensure my cards were safe as i had bought petrol in france. i see that as good customer service more than anything.

the number i was instructed to call was the fraud prevention team, i got straight through and the people were very helpful.

i was just surprised as i spend £1000's over the year and have never been pulled up for say high traffic on my account.

lol about the flowers, i did a spare the minute thing i walked in to a florist whilst the g/f was with me and said can i have 12 red roses please, the lass in the shop got them out prepared them and wrapped them for my g/f who was very grateful - untill i realised i had forgotten my wallet :( the only pro is that i don't have sky upstairs so i got to watch some good telly that night... on the couch.....

Never had any complaints with them.
They blocked my credit card once - but I also thought it was good security and customer service cause it was triggered by a large purchase after a LONG period of inactivity. Sorted out by a simple phonecall from them to me before I had even noticed.
They gave me switch before I was 18, £60 for opening my account and a mastercard when no other cc company would touch me. Now I am in a better financial position I am going to reward their good service with at least 5 years of loyalty (as long as their current account remains free).

I was half expecting a call from them myself as they sent me a new credit card in 2004 (for chip'n'pin I think), but I didn't use it until over 2 years after it was issued.

My Natwest credit card only has a £600 limit on it anyway for some reason, whereas they've given me a £1500 overdraft on my current account

My partner is with HSBC and they've blocked her card twice now because of 'unusual activity'. Last time it was because she bought a pair of cinema tickets!

Natwest are dire!

Infact, the only good thing about them is that 15 years ago the dizzy cow behind the counter when I closed my account added a zero to the amount. To this date they haven't said anything. :D

HA! 'The woman' :D

I actually quite like NatWest. Been with them for years.

Although they did once cancel one of my cards 2 months before it was due to expire because they had sent me out a new card. It never came and I never found out until an ATM ate my card.

Never had any problems with Natwest whatsoever. If I have ever had a problem, the UK call centres have managed to sort it out in a flash and the branches generally seem quite good.

I know of others who have had bad experiences with them also but it really does seem to vary from branch to branch.

That thing about a £400 block is wierd as, I have a solo card and am 15 (therefore not expected to have as much money) and they didn't care at all when I spent £750 from it at ocuk...

Yes, it's a bad thing that they block your card and contact you to inform you as a fraud prevention method.

It's really your own fault if your address is set to home when your parents won't tell you if there's a letter from the bank. If you couldn't use the card again, it's not necessarily because of the amount of the transaction, but because it is outwith your normal spending patterns and they want to speak to you before any further unusual transactions go through. It could also be that a lot of fraudulent transactions have been made with RBS group cards at OcUk, and therefore they are treating anything that goes through as suspicious.

I would recommend contacting your branch or customer services to check if your phone number is on file. When the fraud department go through flagged transactions, if they put a stop on the card they will try to call the customer first. A letter will only be sent if either they can't contact the customer by phone, or if there is an incident like with Shell last year, where there are too many cards at once cancelled to be able to call everyone.
If they don't have an up to date number, I'd recommend giving one to prevent this happening again.

Never had a single problem with Natwest. In fact they seem to be pretty damn good. My mum has had major problems with Barclays and my dad has had problems with Halifax, egg and HSBC.

I'd recommend Natwest to anyone.

NatWest are awesome from the experience I've had with them. I moved from HSBC to Barclays when I joined uni, both of whom were constantly uninterested in my requirements and my queries about general day to day banking. Moved over to NatWest and it's been nothing but a pleasure to deal with them.

Natwest ROCK....

Totally agree - never had a single problem in the many years i've been a customer, and the whole "UK based Call Centre's" is good too. Who wants to wait on the phone in a queue to speak to some twonk in India who has'nt got a clue? ;)

So your basing your whole "NatWest are Dire" post on the fact that 15 years ago you left them.
Thanks for the up to date assessment.

I've been with NatWest for.....blimey, 15 years now.
We've always had a good relationship to be honest - even those old days when money was a little tighter and they sent me the odd letter out telling me to keep my finances in order as per the terms & conditions when I first signed up.
Over the years they grew and I have grown - offering me more as I need more.
I now have a good account in good standing, an emergency limit so I can go slightly into the Red and not be charged or have any letters sent to me.

I'm treated well when I go into my local branch and I've had the odd call at work when I've made a lrge transaction online with my debit card to make sure it was me making it and not somebody trying to steal my money.

Once all the banks start charging for their services, which I think will be in around a years time I'll be happy for them to continue looking after my money.

i had been saving to move house and had my card blocked when i was out buying everything for the house.. although i had already spent 7k in a few hours before they stopped it.... was chuffed that they did tbh.. thats good customer service really..
