Nearly rear-ended someone -on camera

Having watched the video a few times today im now fairly sure this was actually a deliberate attempt to cause an accident, even if the lights had been red the Audi would have stopped well over the line, the driver basically floored it past the OP then swerved in front of him while slamming on the brakes in an effort to get themselves rear ended.

If I were you OP I would pass this video on to the police.

That would mean the police arresting every driver with **** and a fanny, if you recorded 5 separate women over the course of a week this exact event would happen for at least one if not more of them. Women are utterly retarded on and off the road.

That's why I drive a convertible and listen to George Michael

It's not nice when you have a "near miss", but this sort of accident happens all the time, it's nothing new.
Regardless of who's fault it was, just use it as experience and assume everyone else on the road is an idiot :p

As an expert driver, youtube video watcher, crash investigator and racing driver it is clear that

At the 4.1 second mark you should have breathed in deeply.

At the 5 second mark your left hand should have been further towards the centre of the steering wheel.

At the 7.3 second mark you should now be looking forward.

At the 8.5 second mark you should be semi-hard braking

At the 8.9 second mark you should be banging you head furiously up and down to the sick drop in the music

At 9 you should be around 84% onto the brakes.

You really slam on the brakes at 10, this is an error, clearly if you were an expert like me you would have done it at at least 9.4.

At 9.3 seconds you should have breathed out to help exert extra pressure through the leg on the brake pad, you did not do this.

I like this response the most. :D

Nothing new here. Women in executive saloons/rep mobiles pull stupid stunts like this on a daily basis.

She should get the train, plenty of time to sit and drench her pretty little face in makeup.

As some well intentioned, friendly constructive advice: If you'd eased off the gas when the brake lights came on and hung back, you'd have had time to assess the situation and cruise gently up to the rear of the Audi, possibly giving a blast of the horn when a couple of car lengths back to alert the driver to the green light. If there was no further traffic on your right, you could potentially have just changed lane to the right and moved around the Audi.

The key is spotting/anticipating the actions of the other driver early and easing off the gas to give yourself time. The fact that you had to stop at all indicates there's room for improvement in the way you reacted to the situation.

Hello,

I don't want to sound ungrateful to advice but as I have said, I was looking for other potential hazards. I could obviously still see the car in my peripheral vision and noted the pace of which she moved off and the lights changing. It's easy to say I would have done this and that watching the video but when you're actually there it's a bit different.

If I was just fixated on the road ahead (tunnel vision and not on full beam, i.e. scanning and looking everywhere) I could have probably got round her easily yes but given that situation I would have eased off the throttle sooner and come to a smooth stop.

I couldn't move to the right, as I didn't have enough time to be checking every direction in a small amount of time and secondly, I couldn't be sure that she would boot it the moment I went around her, which would then mean she could've easily have driven into my left hand side.

What I have learnt from this that if there are any vehicles ahead and regardless of the colour of the traffic light to treat it as if it were red if that makes sense?

Also, it's hard to judge from a video when I braked or lifted off the throttle so for those who question this well you're just going to have to take my word for it, I'm being absolutely honest with what I was doing. I wasn't on my phone, unsticking my brain from my left, scratching my arse, etc, etc.

Lastly, I also don't feel I used my horn inappropriately and feel that I used it in accordance with the highway code, also I don't want to be stopped there on a green as it's a fast section of road.

This reply isn't entirely in response to your comment.

Thanks though

OPs fault 100% if he did make contact.

Yes it's a weird place to suddenely stop but there could have been a rabbit in the road for all you know.

You shouldn't brake for rabbits as far as I know. Could be wrong...

I know the video is only a few seconds long but the gap I leave between me and the car in front is quite substantial so I am not changing anything there in that respect.

Having finally persuaded my dongle to play the youtube clip in question, I'm sorry Enfield, it seems to me you missed the brake lights for whatever reason.

No **** sherlock - he says that in his posts - he was paying attention to the car on his left as he regularly gets cut up from that direction.

I sympathise as I know a couple of junctions like that, where you're more at risk of some knobber cutting you up from the wrong lane and so you pay more attention to that than you otherwise would at any other junction.

On a side note I got my 7 years NCB through the post today.

Anyone recommend an mod friendly insurance company? I am looking at a 2002 Scooby STi, it's standard but the PPP would be a nice upgrade in the future.

its only made dramatic because you build too much speed and don't lose enough speed when she pulls in front of you.

yea she's don't a carp thing by cutting in and stopping but your probably like me, watching what's going on ahead of the car in front and expecting them to do what you do - ie if there's a gap to maximize speed or in this case a green light
.
