I have decided not to enter the Dell panel lottery and I hate the look of the HP.

Having nothing but joy out of my 20wgx I thought of NEC again.

How about the MultiSync® LCD2490WUXi² which I can pick up for £582.

I can not find any reviews in use for gaming but in my ignorance it looks ok to me.

I know the price is silly - but should I get it? Any one got one?

Thanks

I compared 5 of these in a store that has > 30 working models on the floor to my own NEC EA231wmi.

To be brief... I was immensely disappointed. Viewing angles of 2490 were most certainly NOT better than EA231 and this monitor DOES have some grain (although one of the best coatings I have seen and really not an issue).

But for the money the picture quality is NOT worth 3 times the price of the NEC EA231. The fancy internal electronics that increase the price enormously do not appear to be doing enough to justify the price differential.

The EA231 has such good color fidelity (verified by TFT central as matching and even beating the NEC 2490 and other monitors), black level and contrast ( again beating the NEC2490 and many other monitors) that there really is no other option in the IPS category ATM IMHO.

Colour tinting reports (mine has some tint but minor) all indicate that this monitor suffers nowhere near the level of uneven colour uniformity across the screen that the Dell U2410 and HP2475 do.
Therefore the colorcomp feature of the 2490 is really a moot point when compared to the EA231 -> the color tint does not detract from the overall positive experience with the monitor i.e. it is a minor issue.

The NEC also looks really nice too! :D Overall a beautiful monitor! (especially in silver! if u can get it);)

EDIT: If u can wait you might want to consider NEC's new PA range which is due out in 2010. All sizes from 23" to 30" and all IPS. Hopefully a significant improevement over the wuix range as they are starting to show their age (over 2 years old now). Especially considering it appears that the wuxi2 appeared to be an interim solution between the original wuxi and the release of the new PA241.

Cheers - that is really helpfull.

I knew about the new model range - so thought the old might come down in price and I would also beat the VAT increase. But I am going to wait now.

Thanks
