Hi all,

I have a new AM2+ board without onboard vga, I only have £35 max to spend.. What is the best bang for buck card, either new or second hand?

If you've got a reasonable power supply, your best bet is probably a second hand Radeon 2900 series card. They're fairly powerful, but they got quite a bad reputation for noise and heat output, if that's not a concern for you, given your price range, that's probably the sort of thing you're looking at. You might get lucky and find an 8800 GTS 320MB or even an 8800 GS if you hunt around.

If your talking gaming then stumping up the extra £5 for a 9500GT over a 9400 makes a lot of sense as it will boost performance considerably.

ATI doesn't appear to have anything that can compete with the 9500GT in the same price range - an extra £10 (£15 over your budget) will get you a 4650 which would be faster than the 9500GT by a moderate amount.

Other than that as above look for a second hand 8800 or 2900 card... I've seen some 8800GS going for that price before and they are still pretty decent cards.
