Need a fan, but which one?

In a recent issue of Custom PC they did a coolers labs test, and found that the best overall for AMD to be the Thermaltake Frio. I think you can read the same reviews over at bit-tech, however I had no luck when I did a brief search a second ago. Have a look at the reviews for the Frio, there seems to be much love for it and it's not too expensive :)

Have a google around, there are plenty of reviews. It seems to be able to take on the best coolers out there, however doesn't appear to be very quiet when doing so :)

Not sure about how well it performs when the fan speed is reduced, you'll have to dig a bit deeper for that information or find someone with a little more knowledge of AMD cooling than myself :)

I would recommend anything made by Thermalright. The manufacturing quality is as good as anything I've seen in computing, the design is spot on. They're full of little things like the edges of fins angled to improve airflow from a rotational fan, instead of parallel.

Looking at the current range on here, I believe I would go with the venomous x. However the Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE) is still available elsewhere, and somewhat cheaper as it's "old". At £30 it's difficult to imagine anything beating it on a performance / cost ratio, and few heatsinks can consistently beat it for raw performance.

Thermalright don't provide a fan with their products, allowing you the freedom to choose your own. I think that's a selling point, as I have a small stack of fans which came "free" with things that I feel I've paid for but will never use.
