Hi

I think i will get a new keyboard for gaming as my football bet came up today so i have a bit extra this week, so what would you recommend for around the £50 mark?

At the moment i just have a standard Logitech £9.99 job and a Wolfking Warrior that i usually use with my laptop(i do like it) but i've never really had a decent gaming keyboard, or any decent keyboard tbh so i'm not sure what to look for or what a good deal is. Is it even worth getting one? (i could just get Dead Island instead:p)

Thank You

What do you want out of a keyboard? I used to have £40-50 "Gaming" units with macro buttons, lights, LCDs, media controls and god knows what else but I have finally settled on a simple, no bull mechanical board and will never go back.

Mine ran me £100 (Filco Majestouch II) although you can get other mechanical keyboard from Steelseries, Razer etc for a lot less.

If mechanical is not your game or you value other features then I am a little out of touch with the current offerings! :D

In what way would mechanical keyboards improve my gaming experience?

Well this is the thing really. I am quite happy with a simple no fuss board for everyday stuff and then i have the Wolfking Warrior that i usually use for gaming, but i suppose i just really assume that a "proper" gaming keyboard will be a good upgrade, maybe not but i am considering it.

This is what i use atm, it is very handy for my laptop as well.

It does me fine, but i am thinking of an upgrade

I'd be really happy with that for gaming!

:D

I bought it for my laptop, as i use it a fair bit for oldish games but where your left hand would be gets very hot so i needed something seperate. It is very handy, especially for using from the sofa as well, but now i do most of my gaming on my monitor, not my TV so i am at the desk nearly all the time.

I don't play MMO's so i suppose i don't really need a fancy keyboard. I would like to get a proper keyboard though, as the gaming keypads are alright casually but i don't really want to use it all the time tbh.

My flatmate's just ordered a Microsoft SideWinder X4 Gaming Keyboard after some very good recommendations ;)

I've just got one of those. The price makes it very attractive and has what I was looking for:

Backlight
Macro buttons - but not over 9000
Volume control
Play/pause
Calculator button :p
Wired

There aren't excessive misc buttons and has no LCD, but looks decent and feels fine to type with.

I'm a fan of the Razer Lycosa although its too expensive for what it is.

Lovely feel to the laptop keys, any key is a macro key with the software and it glows blue.

I think if it was cheaper everyone would recommend it.

I just got one today, still getting used to it but the keys really feel great. I've not used a mechanical keyboard before but fell in love with it as soon as I tried typing on it in the shop.

It's not got any dedicated macro keys, but to me that's fine, it feels great for typing and I've not had any problems in games yet either.

I was considering an X4, as others have said, it has great reviews. It just didn't feel as nice to me as this one and since I had the option, I went with the Lycosa.

I had a Steel Series Merc but I find it horrible to actually type on. Right now I just love my Logitech solar-powered keyboard with chiclet style keys. I just couldn't get used to "normal" keys after working on a laptop for years.

I have the Lycosa and don't really get on with it. I feel the lights aren't bright enough in the day, which makes it hard to see...

I've also come to the conclusion that I dislike laptop style keys for gaming lol.

I've got a Samsung Qsenn. You can pick them up off certain sites for around £15 posted. They are very basic but the key operation is as good as you can get for membrane (and they have Korean symbols as well as English).

Cheers

Edit: just to add my opinion on it, its very very good value - I wouldn't replace it for anything else (unless it was for free of course!)
