Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.

The following services are available in your location:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL

does this mean i cant get cable?? if so do i have to have a phone line? - and does it have to be with BT? thanks!

No. Try the NTL and Telewest websites. They should be able to tell you if you can get cable. As far as I know they are the only 2 cable companies(both are NTL).

A quick look says Exeter is in a Telewest area.

Check availability

The postcode you have entered is outside the Telewest cabled area. Unfortunately, this means it is not possible to offer you any of our services at present.

However, you can now take advantage of great value Broadband & Internet services from Virgin. Find out more by visiting their website or clicking the links below.

Alternatively, if you require Telewest business services please call us on 0800 953 1800 or contact us.

looks like a no for cable.....

so do i have to get a phone line? and must i get a line with BT??

Don't plug a phone in, you do not have to, just pay for the rental of the line.

Its all i do, yes they set you up on a telephone package with a phone number etc.... but you don't have to pay for any of it as you don't have a phone plugged in, all i get charged is £10.99 a quarter for the line rental, and all my phone calls etc... come to £0, as i don't have a phone in there, just my modem. :p

No point having a phone plugged in as ive got another line downstairs with a phone. :)

10.99 a qtr - whos that with BT quoted me £10.99 a month... unless they messed it up?

£10.99 a month is the normal rate. Maybe have a word with someone about the situation and see if they can reduce the line rental for you. On the other hand why don't you want a landline? even if it's just for incoming calls it's much more convinient for everyone.

I thought it was £10.99 a month too. Going to have to look at this because we're planning on getting beunlimited for our student house next year and we don't need a phone.

The product your reffering to is often called "naked DSL" in countries where it is offered. It's more likely that you'll see LLU services such as Bulldog and such offer it before companies who use the BT Wholesale lines because the LLU's offer their own phone services.
