Hi Everyone,

I have just joined the forum and you all seem a helpful bunch so I wonder if anyone can help me.

My target is to get 3.4ghz out of my quad 6600 2.4ghz :)

Now my pc specs are as follows:

975X Platinum PowerUp Edition (Motherboard)

Ballistix pc-6400 (Memory 800mhz) 2gb in dual channel, have orderd another 2gb from overclockers :p

Quad 6600 (GO SLACR) version processor, with Zallaman cooler

XFX Geforce 8800 Ultra Extreme 768mb Graphics card.

Now at present I have managed to adjust the FSB to 310 making the cpu go from 2.4ghz to 2.8ghz but for some reason cant get it any further as it will either BSOD or simply hang. I have tried raising the voltage but still it does the same. Now I have the following questions:

1. Is this motherboard any good for overclocking??? (or recommend one that will do the job)

2. Can anyone explain the setting i should be changing, I have read various threads but when trying to compare these to my bios them simply don't add up

On the temp side of things I am currently at 44 however i am assuming its because i went a little silly with the thermal compound as i though the mre the better when in fact its the oppposite so depending on step1 I might clean it off and put some more on but less of it and if i need another board could do it the same time, have ordered myself some Arctic Silver5 thermal paste. This should reduce the temp ??

I don't think i am expecting too much am i thinking I could achieve 3.4ghz? tbh I would be happy with anything 3ghz onwards.

I have the cash waiting if i need to get another board so rather than me jumping in and getting anyboard does anyone out there have a similar setup that they can recommend a board and the settings they used to achieve the overclock i desire?

I really appreciate your time in reading this and thankyou all in advance for any advice you can give me :)

PS. I tried to run that coretemp program and my pc dont like it it just reboots it :(

Also I dont think this chip allows my bios to give me the option for cpu multiplier?

I eagerly await your help........

Hello Franco and welcome to ocuk. First up, what cooler ae you using? Just noticed its a zalman, which one?
Also i believe the 975 boards arent that great for clocking the Quads, however i may be wrong and someone will correct me on that.

I have also just go a Q6600, i have currently got mine running on a Asus P5WDH Deluxe. I have just swapped the cooler from a retail intel heatsink to the Big Typhoon VX 120. It is massive. Currently running at 3ghz, idling around 45c on all cores, Load 70c ish

Hi thx for your reply,

I have the Zalman CNPS9500 I have noticed a lot of ppl going on about the abit I35 Pro board being good for overclocking?? any suggestions?

Can anyone that already has the q6600 with the abit board confirm what speed they have got there's too? And if at all possible can someone also include the settings they changed in the bios to achieve this :)

And I have noticed abit have another board out the "IN9 32X-MAX Wi-Fi" any feedback on this??

I want to order my board either tue/wed so if any others out there can point me in the right direction or confirm that abit is the way to go I would be extremely grateful. And the bios setting would also be very much appreciated :)

My system:

Q6600 go version
Abit IP35Pro
Antec Sonata 3

Corsair Ram 2gb (1066mhz)
Scythe Ninja w/120mm fan rev B
----

At the moment its running at 3ghz idle Core temps according to Uguru are fluctuating between 30 & 34, but I've heard this isnt accurate.

Unfortunately Im running Vista 64bit and cant use Coretemp or TAT.

--If you get the Scythe Ninja with this board be carefull as it block Dimm 1 on the mb, and is a git to clip in place. Make sure the mb and heat sink are in place before final placement in the case. I might change to the Thermalright Ultra 90 w/120m fan - a lot lighter and smaller with just as much cooling ability as the Ninja.

Hi mate i am using the zalaman cooling, that link you put on your reply isnt working :S

I assume there is plenty of room for majority of cooling devices on this board as with my current platinum powerup board i have to slightly move one of the capicitors to one side to allow the plastic bracket to be fitted to allow my zallaman fan to be added ?

Link fixed :)

The board is great but If doing this again I'd get a smaller heat sink unless you get the optional Scythe mounting plate! As for other coolers I would just check the measurements H/W/D and if its less than the Scythe Ninja Rev B (which is 110mmx110mmx150 w/d/h) you should be fine.

Dont get this heat sink if you plan on using 4gb of Ram with the IP35Pro.

ok guys,

I finally got my abit IP35 Pro board and stuck 4x 1gb pc6400 balistix memory in it and then had a play.

This board is amazing for overclocking I have managed to get to a stable 3.4ghz and a not so stable 3.6ghz

I have pumped in 1.54v for the cpu and basically getting temps around 73 on all cores so a little hot i think.

I have got a zalaman cooler the one with the fan master but obviously thats not enough ?? any sugestions of any settings i can try to reduce the temp and then allowing me to increase the voltage or would you think i have come as far as possible without damaging the cpu ??
