Looking to get an AGP (ATI) card that can run world of warcraft and some games, not looking for extreme performance, just something that is reliable, dont need to crank settings to max.

i dont want a card that has a future life (this is a temp PC for gaming), just something for now that can run some games on a normal level, no AA,AF e.t.c

Was looking at the 9550's is that a good choice? budget around 30-50 quid. give me your info on what you reckon is good.

cheers

That will run WoW, for your budget, Id suggest looking at the 7300GTs, for the budget, they'll be faster, especially the DDR3 version, even if its £10 more, it would REALLY be worth the difference.

To be honest I think that as you want to go with an ATi card the best option in your price range by far would be a second user 9800 Pro. It will perform a lot better than the 9550 you are looking at and be able to run games for a while yet with settings on low-medium.

You should be able to pick one up at auction, or on here on Members Market for around £40 when it re-opens and you have enough posts to gain access (I think you need 200).

Really good advice! the 9800 Pro rocks TBH, even now my friend is still using his 9800 PRO (soon to be replacing my x800XT I am selling him) and he plays CS source and stuff with it. Trully the R300 series was one of the best GPU series released.

whats this members market, and also if he need 200 posts, he only has 8!!!!

I remember seeing a bridged 7600GS going cheap at auction, worth looking into the 7 series AGP variants (used preferably as they're much cheaper).

It's another forum on this site where Members can buy and sell computer equipment

You need to have at least 250 posts, to be signed up for at least 90 days and you need to enable your Trust. This is a feedback system so that Members can leave feedback about their transactions with each other. Click the Trust button on the bottom right of all of your posts to do this

If these three things are satisfied you will get access to the Members Market within 24 hours. See the FAQ here

Back on topic - for an ATI card priced between £30 and £50 try and get a 9800Pro or a 9800XT (slightly faster). Both are stonking cards and are far faster than the 9550 you've been looking at. If you're happy to buy a second hand card then this would be your best bet

If you really must have a new card then the 9550 is your only real bet, unless you can stretch to an X1600. Don't get the 'SE' version though as this has a crippled memory interface severly limiting the performance of the card

Any one really - just make sure that it's not the SE version

Something like the Connect3D ATI Radeon 9550 256MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (6055) for £39.94 inc VAT (link) would be fine

thats a nvidia card right? id like an ati one.

cheers.

Thats fine, just saying that the 7300GT is a MUCH faster card. If you really have to go ATi, the 9800/x800 second hand route would be a much superior card to the 9550 though.

if you're only lookin to spend that little just look for a second hand one, theres no point buying anything brand new. its not like you need it to last years etc.
