need help choosing between the 6870's and the GTX 470's

Get the SOC since you're a clocker, it will scream performance at 800 core. The XFX is non-reference design and AFAIK you can't adjust voltage on it, this limits overclocking big time.

I didn't say you mentioned PhysX. you called him a fanboy for what he'd said in the quote, which was about PhysX. If PhysX didn't cross your mind, why did you call them a fanboy for saying PhysX was crap? If he hasn't had said PhysX was crap, you probably wouldn't have quoted him calling him a fanboy, how does this not make sense to you?

I called him a fanboy because that's exactly what he is, go check some of his posts, here's just a few classics from him for your delectation.

Hmmm. I would go amd but the 570s r good too. Depends if you want 3d as amd will probably b cheaper and they use DP

I would stick with ATI so you don't have driver issues.

Ati will have cheaper 3d on the future. For your general need i would say that bpth cards are equal. I would go 6950 because it has more mem and is cheaper in the long run...snip

Have a look through his posts for more clarification of what I mean.

Oh, and to try and call me out on my impartiality is quite simply stunning coming from you ;)

That is all.

Yep, and theyd be a lot quieter/cooler running than reference cards, not that youd need 800mhz, i find 750 to be a nice sweetspot in anything im playing, stock voltage, auto fan, runs as cool and quiet as stock speed, im using standard cards, the soc's will be cooler and quieter again.

Wow, they're fanboy posts? Really? He would go AMD? So by that logic you're an nVidia fanboy because you'd go nVidia in that situation? I'm guessing you'd disagree though. As for driver issues, don't even pretend that it's not a common thing for it to be difficult to move between AMD and nVidia cards. The general recommendation is to reinstall windows. AMD being cheaper than nVidia? Again, how is that being a fanboy? It's generally true.

As for being impartial, I never said I was.

Because they're practically equals in terms of performance, and the 5870 comes with a game.

So a game swings it?:p

Fact is the 6950 is faster scales better in xfire, significant increase in tessellation performance, and has 3D and DP 1.2 plus and an extra 1GB ram.

Your reasoning is flawed. I merely just wanted to highlight the fact.

I have to agree. If I had to choose between the 6950 and 5870, I'd pay a little more and go for the 6950, as mainly the 5870 doesn't has voltage tweak, and then secondly the 6950 has more RAM and performance much better of tessellation.

hey guys,

ive seen the gigabyte gtx 470 SOC has gone up to is price of £239.99 but ive just seen a MSI GTX 480 for an extra tenner, is it worth it ???
