Ok, people I need your help in sorting out my computer. (I am on my old one doing this).
I have posted it here because of the corruption from the motherboard.
The system specs are as follows, with no over-clocking.
It was delivered on 13/04/2007 (2 yrs old to a couple of days so out of warranty).

Processor (CPU) INTEL® Core 2 Duo E6600 (2 X 2.40GHz) 1066MHz FSB/4MB L2 Cache
Memory (RAM) 3GIG CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz
Motherboard ASUS® P5W DH DELUXE: DDR2, x16 slot, 975X chipset, 3 PCI
Graphic Card 768MB GEFORCE 8800GTX PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT
RAID (HDD 1 & 2) NONE
Operating System WINDOWS® XP Home (inc. Genuine CD & License)

I was playing STALKER when it decided to throw its toys out of the pram big time.
I know it’s not the game that caused it because I have played it all through a few times with no bother,
(I was not connected to the internet by the way).
The screen froze then went to three or four very blocky bands of colour and I got a message telling me the driver was corrupted.

On re boot I got this, but it wont go any further (click on picture for full size).

Safe mode gave me this, (click on picture for full size).

Anyway not only did the graphic card go down but I have also got this corruption I think from the motherboard.

I don’t want to get a new graphic card if it’s the motherboard, and I don’t want to get a new motherboard if it’s the graphic card,
(but I also know I may need both).
I can only get into the computer in safe mode, but as you can see from the enclosed pictures I have these red lines.

Also, although I re-installed the graphic card drivers, I cannot adjust the screen resolution up or down,
as it won’t recognise the graphic card at all.
The fact I am getting corruption on start up, these dots lines and weird symbols before it even gets to the card are worrying,
although when I get to the screen the only corruption is the red lines.
The writing and icons are ok.

I have tried inserting the CD from ASUS that says it may repair the Bios, but it wont recognise it on start up, (the manual says it would),
and I have also tried the install CD from Microsoft to repair XP, no joy on that either.

So, has this happened to anyone else? Or anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Edit Note: The Graphic card on the computer above is a PCI and my old one is a AGP, so I can't try and swap the cards.

Red Font?
If your looking at the American Megatrends, its the screen I get when I press
(I think its f8) to get the safe mode up, it does a check then I can get into the BIOS.
I think its after that I get the safe mode choice.
This is what is making me think the motherboard or BIOS is shot, before windows starts.

If your looking at the last screen I took the photo just before the icons come up in safe mode, so I see my screen as this shot with icons.
I can get to everything you can get to in safe mode with no corruption to the writing. just the red lines all over.

Hi, have you tried taking the pci g/c out including uninstalling drivers, then if your board has onboard vid install the drivers for that, you may need to switch it on under integrated devices in the bios! That might show you if its the pci g/c!

Also I have never had any real joy with the xp repair function, a clean install is normally the best option. If it was me I would pull everything from the comp leave one hdd, one stick of ram, cd drive, and do a clean xp install if it works after that then you can start trial and error with the ram, g/c etc.

P.s Its a bit of a hard problem to work out but have you tried the monitor on a different pc? Let me know how you get on!

Its worth a try as I have had computers that would not boot past the bios screen, and I reset the cmos once, twice, three or four times then suddenly it works!

P.s when did you get the stalker game, did you download it, if so that could be the prob!

That is looking like your gpu is shot.
Have you had a look for dust in the heatsink and check the fan, possibly try the second PCI-E slot.

Thanks for the info people, I will give one or two things a try as I seem to have nothing to loose.

Yes I put the monitor onto my old computer and its fine, and STALKER was from Disk (original not a rip),
but I have played it through a couple of times with no problem.

never thought it may be a gpu probelm mind, thanks for getting back all.
