Hi all,

After some advice with this. I've got a 2009 OcUK build rig with the following:

Gigabyte EX58-UD3R motherboard
i7 9200 @ 3.6ghz
16gb DDR3
GTX 670

The motherboard and CPU are originals from 2009 and the overclock recently caused issues so I downed it to 3.0ghz about 3 months ago.

So this morning I booted it up and... nothing. I get a black screen with no bios logo. I also get no beeps from the board.

I've tried all the obvious. Ensured monitor is working (it is), changed the GPU to an old one I have spare, removed the hard drives and all but 1 ram stick, taken out the motherboard battery for a few minutes.

My monitor appears to detect a signal but it's just a black screen. If I pull the DVI-D cable out it will report no signal. When the PC is on all the fans are spinning and LED lights working so doesn't look like a PSU issue.

I can't send keyboard commands to the PC when it's on and presumably loaded onto the desktop. For example, I tried pressing the eject key expecting my dvd drive to open but nothing. So... I don't think it has loaded into Windows at all. Keyboard doesn't do anything.

Does this sound like a CPU / motherboard issue? I guess I've ruled everything else out?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the replies.

I've just removed the DVD drive and no luck sadly.

How do I go about resetting the bios without being able to see the bios screen? Battery removal? I've had the CMOS battery out all day and just plugged it in again and no joy!

Just an update. I've pretty much written off the Motherboard and/or CPU now. Had the battery out for hours so the BIOS must be reset by now. Still no change.

I've already ordered a shiny new motherboard bundle :)

I'd still like to understand what happened though. Does this sound like a CPU issue or motherboard? If I take out the CPU from the board and then attempt to boot it, should I be able to get to BIOS still?

Boards won't boot without a CPU, nor without memory, beep codes will be produced with the latter but not the former though.

Ok cheers. I guess I'll never know then as I don't have any spare i7's that will work with this EX58 motherboard. It strikes me as a CPU related issue though as all of the fans etc are running. However, when I plug a USB keyboard in and press CAPS Lock I get no caps lock LED light showing so it's as if there is no-one home at all.
