Need help with Son's present

Just brought my son an MP3 player for xmas:

It says no driver needed but some places say you need a CDROM to install.
I have connected it to PC, blue LED flashing but can not put any songs onto it. Hoping its not a duff mp3 player.

any ideas anyone?

if you're running windows XP, make sure you have WMP11 installed. some players need certain files included with WMP to work even if you don't intend to use WMP at all.

if you're already using WMP11/later version of windows, check device manager and see if anything shows. (start, run, devmgmt.msc)
